Does BFF encoding give compatibility issues?

I was wondering if encoding mpeg2 bottom field first could possibly give compatibility issues (now or later). Are there dvd players that can't play BFF material? Is it likely to become an issue later?
I'm backing up a lot of old home movie tapes and I capture them as dv (and they're all BFF). So I want to make sure I won't be sorry later that I didn't encode them as TFF.

Read FAQ. New version CEE go to Encoder Setting, Advanced and use offset line 1 and check TFF. This could work.

Yes I know If I select top field first and set offsetline to 1 with BFF material I get an mpeg2 stream that's TFF. But my question is: Can I expect compatibility issues (now or in the future) if I encode the material as it is (so as BFF)?

bff is in the standard, so no problem
