RipIt4Me: What does it really do?

I have used RipIt4Me a couple of times when AnyDVD wouldn't do the job and it worked fine. I am just curious what exactly the RipIt4Me program itself does, other than let you pick how you want to rip the movie and where to put it. Can't you just skip RipIt4Me, rip with DVDDecrypter, and then run it through FixVTS to accomplish the same results. RipIt4Me is always trying to connect with RipIt4Me.com. Is it really needed or does it just make life easier by automatically going from one program to the next without having to do it manually?

One of the big things it does is create and import a PSL (protected sectors list) file into DVD Decrypter.

And disc scratch detection by comparing IFO data to DVDDecrypter's results. It also won't rip unreferenced title sets. An excellent tool!

Hi!Can't you just skip RipIt4Me, rip with DVDDecrypter, and then run it through FixVTS to accomplish the same results.DVD Decrypter, cannot directly process "ARccOS" protected DVDs (Other than the very first ones, generated a couple of years ago)...

It is clear that is also deeply analyses the DVD and figures out what is rubbish and what is not.

It is also able to rip DVDs whose filesystems are in tatters - eg Silent Hill (Germany).

As well, you have a terrific jump to menu feature (which is technically perfect) and the ability to rip in 4 modes (also handy).

As for it "calling home" it does that to find an update.

DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink both are not updated any more.
That's why an external tool needs to "help" them to cope with new DVD titles...

I'll jump in here and ask this simple question which I've wondered about...does Ripit4me still remove all protection in ISO mode? I thought I read on some post that it does not but wanted to ask this specifically. This is one area in which I prefer AnyDVD--I can rip an ISO with DVDDecrypter with AnyDVD functioning in the background to remove all the nasties, but if Ripit4me does this similarly, then I'd prefer to use it.

As per the guide - it removes the bad packs in the VOBs and replaces them with stuffing packs. I doubt it does much, if anything, to the IFOs.

Use this mode for 1:1 DL burns.

Could the process of removing certain things like bad packs in VOBs or PUOs (I'm generalizing now, not talking about a certain mode) depend on the options I've set in DVD-Decrypter? I'm asking, since I don't use the default ones: I spent a few evenings once to set everything for my own use. For instance removing PUOs isn't enabled by default AFAIR.

PS. I'm not having any issues, but I haven't decrypted for a few months, so just asking from curiosity. ;)

According to the FAQ page, the PUOps are not changed. See FAQ 27 (http://www.ripit4me.org/faq.html#faq27)

Having read the above I assume RipIt4Me takes care of all DVD Decrypter settings (?). Or are those listed in the FAQ the ones that differ from the default DVD-Decrypter's settings, so some would be left untouched if I change them manually (?).

Well, the way I read it, it leave everything as you have it except it temporarily changes the settings in that FAQ. So if you have PUOps unticked (as I do), it will respect that. However, if file splitting is not by file, then for that rip, it will be by file (and then returned to your preferred setting afterwards).
