Geforce4 ti4600 VIVO Issues, WDM drivers & black screens

I have a MSI GeForce4 ti4600 installed using the ForceWare 93.71 driver and 2.26 VIVO WDM driver. I have a VCR hooked up via composite cables and I cannot seem to get capturing to work anywhere! I have tried WinDVR, VirtualDUB, VirtualVCR to no avail.

WinDVR gives me the best hope in that it gives me a black screen.

I have heard good things about ExperTV(Geforce4 specific capturing program) but I can't find a download for it.

And why isn't the GeForce4 officially supported for the NVIDIA WDM driver? Should I use something else?

Any ideas?

A silly question perhaps but, are you sure you have the cables plugged into the VCR's "Outs" and not "Ins"?

Had something similiar a while ago. Do you have ffdshow installed and maybe 'RAW Video' enabled?

No such thing as a silly question. And with that...they were plugged into the inputs. I couldn't beleive it...

Though not all is saved! VirtualVCR doesn't show anything nor VirtualDub. When I try to use WinDVR3 I get a blue screen in reference to nv_mini.sys or something.

Success! I installed ffdshow and enabled RAW video. I still can't get VirtualVCR to work but I got it workin in VirtualDub. Thanks for all your help guys!

Actually, in my case enabled 'RAW video' was the reason of problem, but then again, I have GF6600 vivo. I'm glad it helped. Cheers.

So, sweet ass sweet, I got audio and video input no problemo on the machine but...

After I capture I have a file with great audio but nothing but a green screen. During the capture process the video is playing back fine but after the capture the file shows that green screen.

Any idears?

Sounds like your system may be using the wrong video codec for playback...

Hi there,

I recently started using the capture capabilities of my Gainward Golden Sample Ultra 650 XP GeForce4 Ti4200 and had exactly the same problems: black screen in VirtualVCR, working overlay but green screen when previewing or capturing in VirtualDub. I too had installed Forceware 93.71 and WDM 2.26. I tried WDM 1.08 (the version with macrovision disabled) as well, but that made no difference. Then I did A LOT of searching on the Internet (including Nvidia support forums) and learned that not every combination of Forceware and WDM driver version work together. Even worse, some combinations seem to work for some but not for others. What a mess of Nvidia! :devil: BUT finally, I found a post somewhere of someone suggesting to use the WDM 4.13 drivers, even though Nvidia says on their site these support only GeForce 6 and 7 graphics cards. So I tried that, not expecting too much, but guess what... IT WORKS NOW!!! :D I can capture without any trouble in VirtualDub and VirtualVCR. Hope this works for you too...

What's odd though, is that when I check the driver version in Device Manager it says 1.08. Oh well, that means I can capture macrovision protected titles I guess, so I'm not complaining :D

So everything seems fine, I installed the XP Codec Pack (http://www.xpcodecpack.com/) to see if that did anything. No go. I still get green screen on playback with no audio.

The strange thing is that it all looks fine during capture.

what if you load the vid into vdub again?
tried VLC player? as i understand it, that one comes with its
own codecs.

I did try VLC, it seems no matter what player (including VDUB) I get the green screen with no audio.

I just did, and yea that worked! Frickin weird eh? Captures and plays like a dream now.

Just to add weight to this thread, I had the same problem as dyoung. Although mine is a MSI GeForce4 ti4200 (not ti4600) installed using the ForceWare 93.71, I did as eXistenZ_69 said and it worked!

I know it's been more than a year that this thread started but since it solved a problem I had since quite a bit, I'm glad to say it works! And by the way eXistenZ_69, Device Manager says that my "nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal)" driver version is now 4.1.3.0 (Driver Date: 2005-04-14)
