Are there really no good DVD rippers --> Ipod conversion programs

ok..

I tested prob 20 programs for converting VOB to MP4
none of them work.
the only thing that will work is converting to AVI with AutoGK
and then from AVI to MP4

This is the problem.

movies/music in 16:9 or 16:9 Letterbox format is either getting way to small or ends up Fullscreen

ie.

123 DVD Converter

Output aspect:
None(Letterbox 4/3) -->format is getting to small
Medium (4/3) --> Fullscreen
Pan/Scan ---> Fullscreen
Full (16:9 or 4:3 ) ---> Fullscreen

Acala DVD Ipod Ripper
Doesn't see a difference for 16:9 or 4:3 seems like it
they all end up 4:3 format

and the list goes on....

Am I missing something here or what????

AutoGK seems like it's the ONLY program that does detect
Screenformat from VOB/IFO Files.

So...... is there something out there, that does work??

As far as encoding from VOB to the iPod, I use MeGUI (http://mewiki.project357.com/wiki/Main_Page), and I highly recommend it. Read this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=115917) for more info on using MeGUI to encode for the iPod. The only bad thing about MeGUI is that it will take a little bit of your time to learn how to use it, but trust me, it's well worth it. I've also tried some of the myriad of iPod conversion programs out there, and I haven't found anything I would pay even $0.01 for. Most of them are around $30, but MeGUI is free! Really . . . check it out.

Handbrake is the best and easiest DVD to iPod program for the Mac, and there's finally a Windows version.

You can create iPod with MPEG Streamclip (needs Quicktime or Quicktime Alternative). ;)

I really like MeGUI...

Rip DVD with DVD Decrypter / RipIt4Me, Make D2V with MeGUI, make AviSynth script, select iPod profile for video, and an LC-AAC for audio, and auto encode to whatever bitrate you want.

i rip with DVD Fab Decryptor then convert from VOB to MP4 with CloneDVDMobile....i tried alot of others, this is the only one that worked, and easily.
