View Full Version : Need some Xvid Encoding Assistance

Hi all...This is my first post but I have been reading and learning from the forums for about 6 months or so. I am finally to a point that I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

I have been capturing ATSC HD content and encoding into 960x544 700 meg files for storing. The HD content is 1920x1080i 19Mps framerate is 29.970. Usually after editing out thhe commercials, the videos are ~42mins long and bitrate is ~2130kBit/s. I am using GK and have played around with the Xvid settings but still have some issues. Sometimes in the final video if there is fast movement I get like a "Matrix" effect (like the effects in the movie). For the life of me I can't get rid of them. And it is not throughout the whole video either.

Anyway, I am posting screenshots of my Xvid settings and hope someone can assist me. I have tried plain vanilla settings, but these are my latest settings and I got them from the forums here. One difference is right now I am trying to encode with these settings along with QP checked.

i doubt is an issue of xvid, more probably is and interlacer problem.

try using autogk, automkv or megui, and look at the analisys of source files, maybe is to decimate/deinterlacer :)

Alright..meGUI says it is interlaced..Field order bottom first....DeInterlace with TDeint (with EDI)

With GK, which Deinterlace filter should I use..My options are:

Kernel DeInterlace
Field DeInterlace
Field DeInterlace (no blend)
Smart Bob (did not work..seems I am missing files?)
TomsMoComp
Inverse Telecine

Can I somehow add other DeInterlace filters so I have more options?

in gk you can freele edit the avs so you will be able to load any plugins needed and apply the corrispondenting filter

anyway i can suggest a try with with kernel or tomsmocomp :)

Megui has a wonderful option that create the avisynth deinterlacing script so that you don't have bang your head in trying and trying and trying... It saved my sundays many times...:D

You can edit the script and add in whatever deinterlacer you want :)

I would also suggest not trying to overthink your XviD settings so much - particularly in the area of quantizer limitations. Just leave those at the standard 2-31 ranges and use 2 pass with (usually) qpel, bframes, trellis, adaptive quant, a good CQM if you like them - I like Sharktooth's V3HR and Didee's 6of9, and at least VHQ1, preferably 4.

Ok...I have changed back to 2,31 on the quant and using qpel....But what is CQM???

"CQM" stands for Custom Quantization Matrix.

In the codec's settings you've got sth like "quantization type" with two build-in matrices: H.263 (the default quantization) and MPEG. In reality the devs here has created dozens of custom matrices aiming at different sources, bitrate, desired quality etc. CQMs are a very very broad topic. ;)
Because the codec uses a quantization matrix to compress you source video, choosing a proper matrix for your encode (provided you're already a bit familiar with them) has large influence on quality (or the way you would like to see the video).
