I have a DVD i ripped to my hard drive that I'd like to deinterlace before encoding into an AVI. What's the highest-quality way to do this, preferably with AviSynth?

Depends on the source.
Is it hard or soft telecined FILM,
blended fields stuff
or true interlacing?

Ummm... I guess I didn't understand interlacing as well as I thought I did. Is there a guide that will explain this stuff? I know what telecined video is, but i didn't know there were different versions. Is there software that will analyze the video and tell me what kind of interlacing it uses?
If it helps, I'm ripping a US disc of anime.

One of them is called AutoGK. Let it encode your file unless and until you get a handle on it.

The highest quality is way is never the quickest, remember.

This simply isn't true.
(Why to do MCbob() deinterlace when IVTC will be enough?)
