Hi
I encode wmv9 with mpeg2 and ac3-sources.
Once the file is a wmv, will the sound still be ac3 or will it be wma?

You mean Transcording? or containing?
If you do trans-cording... it will be wma.
But If you only put ac3 audio into wmv(asf, containing)... it will be ac3.

how do I know the difference?
How do I know if Im transcoding or simply containing? Im pretty sure Im transcoding.. but just to be safe.

which tool did you use to create the .wmv?

Load the WMV in GraphEdit. If the audio decoder box shows a WM Audio decoder, you transcoded to WMA.
Unless you intentionally muxed the AC3 stream into the .wmv file, I highly doubt the AC3 just magically ended up there.

Simple test: Run the WMV in WMP11. When it runs, audio is WMA.
