I was working all weekend putting the finishing touches on NetEncoder 0.9.

In case you don't know what it is, NetEncoder is a professional tool for converting prerecorded video into Windows Media format using multiple networked computers.

This version supports two-pass encoding, VC-1 and other Advanced Profiles.

NetEncoder 0.9 also has online HELP and includes an improved setup utility.

This is about Windows Media Encoder and its related codecs.
VC-1 is the codec that many content producers are now interested in. You can visit Microsof't Windows Media Encoder page for more information.

What my program does is help people reduce the conversion time from hours to hopefully a fraction of hours.

Another way NetEncofer can be useful is by serving the video file to a remote PC and therefore freeing your CPU for other tasks. When the conversion is done, NetEncofer automatically retrieves the encoded file from the remote PC back to your workstation.

Thank you for that. The previous version did not support 2-pass encoding and had no help function at all, so i thought those issues were important to take care of first.

Right now, i think my next item will be to add "auto stich" as you suggested.

I will post a heads-up here once i get that done, ok?
Btw, what do you do? Do you work with digital video as a hobby or is this related to your work?

I tried the previous version, and upon start it immediately said 'invalid profiles' (or some such). There were no supplied profiles, so grabbed some standard looking .prx's, put them in the profiles folder, and it still didn't find them. The profile dropdown was empty.

any ideas?

oh, and does the 2-pass work reliably? I've never been able to do 2-pass in WME, does first pass, starts second, ends immediately, 6kb wmv. Might be haali splitter.

Thanks for bringing up this question. For getting started with NetEncoder, it is recommended to begin by converting a couple of AVI files using one of the "system" or "default" profiles. For example: "Windows Media Video 8 for Local Area Network (768 Kbps)" is one of the "system" profiles that comes with the WMEncoder engine. There are about a dozen or so of these "system" profiles that are built in. NetEncoder's profile dropdown menu must show most of these profiles and if it does not, that is definitely a problem with your particular installation.
Once you get everything working with one of these simple, 1-pass profiles, then I suggest trying something a little more complicated, like a 2-pass VBR. Please note all your profiles must be copied to:
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder\Profiles
This is the default Media Encoder profile directory. One last thing, the "system" profiles do not appear here. Their names are hard coded in the WMEncoder engine for backward compatibility.
