Old Xvid encode plays badly now??

Hey there, unlike the other thread that got locked i hope not to do anything wrong here ;)

But i encoded the Party, a Peter Sellers classic, about years ago, and it played fine then but now on a new windows install, with new Xvid codecs, i get lots of blocks and a color fading, what s up with all that??

how can i fix it??

Color fading is a playback chain problem. See this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120718) for why it happens, but it hasn't been as urgent a priority this year because the latest versions of ATI and nvidia drivers finally (mostly) fix the problem in VMR9.

Blockiness, well, the blocks were probably always there and just being masked by post-processing. So turning ffdshow's or xvid's post-processing on will probably help. (Stick with deblocking, deringing kills a lot of detail.)

yeah i have the latest divx 6.5 after they fixed the codec that played everything upsidedown and left to right lol....

i have ffdshow....

should i install keopi's XVID?

I've read about that - the decoder was buggy as hell. :D
DivX tends to decode all popular MPEG-4 ASP, where XviD also belongs, without asking, so make sure you've disabled DivX decoder for playing other types of video streams.

Then try with ffdshow, libavcodec, or u can still use ffdshow, but let the built-in XviD 1.1.2 (the latest stable) decode instead (under codecs' option in ffdshow), providing you use ffdshow for other things (some filters etc.).

If you don't encode, it's useless. So it's up to you. ;)
