Since the version of 2007-01-11 (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/doc/ChangeLog) MkvToolNix supports proper MPEG-2 video multiplexing. I decided to try it and muxed a telecined NTSC video (720*480) and A/52 audio.
Gabest's splitter v1.0.2.9 failed to demultiplex the video, so I decided to give Haali v1.7.62.21 a try. The video came out extended to PAL dimensions (720*576), with garbage displayed and broken aspect ratio in players that support reading one. What gives?

Edit: I used 2007-01-17 release of MkvToolNix.

This problem has been partially solved by not using Elecard MPEG-2 decoder. A different problem remains, however: Seeking does not work reliably. Aprox.*half of seek attempts result in media player crashing.

Try VLC 0.8.6a for MPEG2 in MKV, go http://www.videolan.org .
I think VideoLAN is not good for everyday playback (at least on Windows). What I need is a simple directshow splitter. I suppose Haali has problems (like crashing BSPlayer) because it is too complex. Is Guliverkli going to update his splitter?

Have you tried Haali's Simple Media Splitter?

Gabest hasn't been seen or heard from in nearly a year, sadly, unless I missed an announcement somewhere. ;_; He's missed by many.
I don't believe BSPlayer crashes are the fault of Haali's splitter.

Am I missing something and there are more than one Haali splitter?

Am I missing something...
So, it would appear.
...and there are more than one Haali splitter?
Yep. Haali Media Splitter is the default. But you also have the Haali Simple Media Splitter which is just a dumb splitter and not a bitrate monitor/stream switcher/etc./splitter like the default splitter is. There is also the Haali Media Splitter (AR) which connects to File Source and does not act like a File Source/Splitter like the first two. However, it is still as "complex" as the default Haali Media Splitter. These are all included when you run the MatroskaSplitter.exe.
Hope this helps. Of course there are others who could probably explain things better than me.
