View Full Version : Preview problems with VobBlanker 2.1.2.0 in Vista

Hi, just installed VobBlanker 2.1.2.0 on a brand-new Vista machine. My problem is that I'm having huge difficulties previewing now. So far, I've experienced this:

1) Small preview window on main screen doesn't play through anything other than menus. Whenever I highlight anything else all I get is a single thumbnail shot in the preview window, nothing plays

2) When I select something in "PGCs in Selected Title Set" I get a single image in the preview window only, with no motion. Doesn't matter if it's a large VOB or something shorter. When I then select Cells or Prev/Cut I often get absolutely nothing in the big preview screen. When it plays the preview screen is sometimes completely white or completely black, even though it's obvious that the video is "playing." This sometimes happens regardless of the length of the segment I'm trying to preview. I've now experienced this on four or five dvds on my hard drive.

I've gone into settings and tried enabling any Autoplay options that are there but that makes no difference. I can only assume that this is a Vista issue since I've used quite a few VobBlanker versions on a daily basis with great success on three or four XP machines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried to enable the "Do not use overlays" option?

BTW, the same code is used for the PgcEdit preview and Jeanl's DVDSubEdit. Do you have similar problems with those programs?

Anyway, it confirms that Vista is the biggest joke ever produced by M$!

Anyway, it confirms that Vista is the biggest joke ever produced by M$!OK, results are a mixed bag (thanks for the prompt reply, BTW). I chose "do not use overlays" and it seems to have fixed the problem, and least in the main, large preview window. The tiny main-page preview still does just a freeze-frame without playing, but I can live without that (like in the old versions where there wasn't any tiny preview at all).

And yes, as it turned out I had the exact same problem with PGCEdit (I've never used DVDSubEdit). Either a totally white or totally black preview screen with no picture. And just as with VobBlanker, it was fixed by choosing Preview --> Disable Direct Draw Overlays.

I assume I should now save this setting to the registry in VobBlanker, right (otherwise I'll have to do it each time)?

And yes, Vista SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS. I have had nothing but problems with it for four days. Can't get it to work right on my little home network, it asks me constantly for friggin' permission to do the simplest of things, some apps have been almost impossible to install at all, and I can't get two printers to display ink levels despite Vista supposedly having ALL drivers for them built in (and, of course,
Epson refuses to help because they know nothing about Vista). I would give anything to go back a week in time and simply by a new XP box instead of this hunk of junk.

Thanks again, and any chance future releases will be able to handle Vista's quirks?

Yes, save the VB settings to the registry.

I hope the preview will be updated, but it's not my work. Jeanl has made it (based on the old DVD2AVI code) but I know that it is really difficult to modify it, as the original code is very complex. There is even some parts coded in assembler. Anyway, I'm almost sure Jeanl has not yet installed Vista.

I had the same problem with XP on an ACER Notebook and shared memory! (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900)

I've one PC at home with Vista, but didn't play with it..
First thing you have to do is to disable "Windows defender", otherwise, many applications fail to install..., but you'll lose the advantage (if any) of Windows defender...

Second thing is to use "clasical desktop". Otherwise many players (not only the "old" DVD2AVI) do not play.

Or... use WMP at your own risk.

Seems it is enough to check "do not use overlay" to preserve the new VISTA desktop..
