I have been trying to author a DVD using dvdauthorgui for some time now. But I have no luck getting the aspect ratio correct, for this specific 16:9 material. I view the resulting DVD on a 4:3 TV, but instead of letterboxing the image is stretched, filling all the screen. I have checked the dvdauthorgui logs, which say its 16:9.
The material is a recording made with a Panasonic standalone recorder, which happens to record in 704x576 resolution. I have tried the following, all of which works perfectly:
- dvdauthorgui with true 720x576 16:9 material
- dvdauthorgui with 704x576 16:9 patched to 720x576
- muxman with 704x576 16:9
I come to the conclusion that there is something with the combination of 704x576 and 16:9 that is the problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Any fix available? Is it the gui, mplex or dvdauthor that is at fault?

Hi!
Have you tried changing the display settings of your standalone DVD player? (Most have options for 16:9, 4:3 Letterbox, and 4:3 Pan&Scan)

If the solution above fails to work you can always force the file to believe it's 16:9; by patching the mpeg headers in the mpg or vob files with a program called DVDPatcher: http://www.wincesoft.de/html/dvdpatcher.html
Just make sure all the settings are the same as the loaded file but change the Aspect Ratio to 16:9 and select the option: Patch: Entire File.

setarip_old: Yes, but you are missing the point. Only 704x576 material is displayed incorrectly, 720x576 works fine, and by using other author progs I can make 704x576 work as well. I want to use dvdauthorgui because I need to have several titles this time, the other progs (muxman free version can't do that)
c0nanPayne: Already done that.

Well, by adopting a suitable mxp script, MuxMan 0.15P (the free version) is perfectly happy with multiple titles...
Sorry for making this little OT digression respect to the focus of your thread, but (IMHO) there are some important features, related to the mux quality, in support to the usage of MuxMan respect to other authoring engines...
If a multiple titles authoring with only a single title per VTS is sufficient for your purposes, you may like to give a try to BatchMux:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=116297
It is a small tool (a wrapper) that helps in creating an mxp script for MuxMan through a simple command line interface...

That sounds interesting, I will give it a try when I get home this weekend. Up until now I have been using Muxman only. Only tried dvdauthorgui when I needed multiple titles.
Thanks
