ffdshow, MPC, and iTunes' m4v format

I can't seem to get iTunes downloaded movies to play on media player classic. They're m4v format, which I understand is a misnamed mp4/H.264 file. I know SO much about XVID and so little about H.264, but I know that it's enabled as libavcodec in ffdshow, and both ffdshow and MPC have been uninstalled and reinstalled. MPC grabs the file, but only shows audio and won't even play that. I've tried renaming the file to .mp4, but no good. It plays fine on Quicktime and iTunes, but I HATE their stupid players...
Am I doing something wrong?

Isn't there DRM protection in those files? So they probably don't play on other players.

Files downloaded from the iTunes Store have Fairplay DRM, so the files (audio and video) will only play in iTunes.

So, then, I assume that there's currently no way to remove that protection? It's not like I want to copy it for all of my friends -- I just don't want to be stuck with their crappy player...

On videos, no.

There's not much you can do besides telling the MPAA/RIAA to suck it. All of these services (CinemaNow, Vongo, etc.) have DRM.
