Can ne1 give me a step-by-step tutorial (including the required softwares for the same) on burning 4 to 5 movies in a single DVD which can be standardised to play in any DVD Player ?

I have my family gathering videos on different occasions on multiple CDs which I intend to compile into a single DVD.

I have files in the following formats :

.dat format
.3gp format
.avi format
.wmv format
.mpeg format
.rm format
.rmvb format &
.mpg format

Hi!I have my family gathering videos on different occasions on multiple CDs which I intend to compile into a single DVD...I have files in the following formats :
.dat format .3gp format .avi format .wmv format .mpeg format
.rm format .rmvb format & .mpg format1) Would you please explain why you don't "have your family" converting all of their DVDs to the same format, rather than 8 or more different formats? It would certainly make your quest easier.

2) It would be simpler to start by re-ripping all of the family-owned DVDs and then using DVD Shrink in "Re-author" mode to put, perhaps, 2 (certainly not 4) movies on a DVD-5...

Commercial softwares, such as Roxio and Nero full versions, include drag-and-drop programs that will convert nearly any video type to DVD.

I believe the original poster was refering to family made home movies not dvds.

Some of these family movies are in VCD Format while others are in different formats. Actually, some of these family recordings were originally recorded in VHS format. Later on, again some of these video tapes were converted into VCD and DVD formats from third party agencies as I did not posses a computer at that time. These recordings were done by different relatives of mine (sometimes even myself was not present at the gatherings!!) for our family function in different areas of the globe.

The content would go upto over 20 CDs in different formats. What I require is getting all the data converted and written into as less DVDs as possible and I have seen my friends storing 10 to 12 hours of recording into a single DVD. How can I do that? I have Nero, but it stores a max. of 2hrs. per DVD. Can ne 1 assist me on this?

For the really lousy quality files, you can use 320x240, you can fit quite a bit of video in that way. Not 10 or 12, but at least 5 or 6 while looking decent.

Are you sure the 10-12 figure isn't related to mpeg-4 (divx/xvid) stored on a DVD, maybe played by a divx-player standalone?
