IMHO, having to wait 5 days to contribute is really counter-productive. I had a ton of stuff to contribute when HDDVD got cracked, but I could do anything about it... just my 2 cents

I dont know why they make you wait. Personally I DONT like it. But I think they may have some VALID reason as to why they do it:
1. They only want REAL users to post questions. Maybe they are afraid that you will register just for the sake of asking a question (Which is prob WHY anyone registers) and then never come back, or if they do come back they may RE-register after forgetting their original info.
2. Maybe they verify or check your info you use to register and are selective in their registrants. I dont really think this is why but you never know
3. Waiting before you can answer your FIRST question forces you to LOOK and SEARCH for the answer online in hopes that the answer already resides on their site. If you have FIVE days to search then maybe you will FIND your answer before you have a chance to ask it.
I REALLY dont know, I dont like it, but I would like to KNOW why they do make us wait. At least I dont have to wait anymore.

as you (correctly) guessed, this duscussion comes up a lot :). Use search to find flames of days gone by, because it's sure not interesting rehashing them.

couldnt agree more ...

and for the record, the benefit found in reducing the amount of useless/spam/etc posts by the 5 day wait FAR outways the number of contributary posts that cannot be made in this waiting period.
