Hi,

This is probably a dumb question, but do any of these programs:

AutoGK
DVDDecrpyter
DVDShrink
ImgBurn
DVDFab
MPEG4 Modifer

...come with spyware/malware or anything other than the program when you download and install? I just wanted to make sure before using them...

Note: I think that AutoGK on my friend's computer always asks to connect to the internet when you open it. Why is this?

And does it matter what site you get them from?

I was going to get AutoGK and ImgBurn from their official sites.

DVD Decrytper, DVD Shrink, and DVD Fab from either http://mrbass.org or http://www.freewebs.com/redhazehelp

And MPEG4 Modifier from the mirror at http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=MPEG4_Modifier

Are those all safe sites?

Thanks for helping a newbie! :)

Thanks for the answers and links!

I saw this link for a tutorial for DVDFab Decryptor:
http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvdfab_decrypter.php

...is that a good one to use, or do you know of a better one? (I've got links to tutorials for the rest...)

Thanks again!

Personally I don't use DVDFab Decrypter so I wouldn't know which is a good guide, but that guide that you linked does look pretty explanatory. You may want to research RipIt4Me (http://www.ripit4me.org/). It is all that I use now and has performed flawlessly. Check out the FAQ (http://www.ripit4me.org/faq.html).

Interesting! So that program does everthing the others do?

And I'm assuming to spyware/malware attached?

I'm not aware of any single program that can do every function that all the programs on your list do. There are some program suites available that can do that, but there's no single program...

I meant does it do the same as DVD Decrypter and DVD Fab Decrypter...?

Yes, the "RipIt4Me" package "does what DVD Decrypter" and/or DVDFab Decrypter do", only better ;>}

By all means, go to the website:

www.ripit4me.org

download the program(s) and read the excellent onsite tutorial...

Will do!

So would you still need to even install those other two programs mentioned above?

(Also, setarip_old, I posted a follow-up question to you in my other thread about the dual-layer media -- not sure if you'd check that thread again, so I thought I'd give you a heads up here -- thanks!)

This is actually a GREAT question (IMO).
I know that RipItForMe goes on net but only to check for updates (or at least I hope so). I dont think Shrink or Decrypter access the net (Im had for a while now).
But I just got Daemon Tools so that I can mount an ISO to feed into RI4M and it wants to access the net for some config or something. The problem is that the PC that does all my ripping has NO access to the net. What is Deamon trying to get? Why cant they just include the necessary files in their install? I understand that you may want to check for updates or take me to your homepage for free advertising, but it wont let me continue until it accesses the web page. This seems very suspicious. What can I do to get Daemon to run without accessing the net 'on the fly'? OR, is there a BETTER program that does what Daemon Tools does without the necessary internet access?

But I just got Daemon Tools so that I can mount an ISO to feed into RI4M Just rip from your original DVD. No need to mount the ISO.

Im trying to rip Shottas with RipIt4Me but it wont. I have edcrypted the DVD with special setting on DVD decrypter and now must mount those files into RI4M. If you look up 'Shottas' on the RI4M forum you'll see what I mean.
This is how others have been successful- by mounting a virtual ISO into RI4M AFTER you burn the image with decrypter. Do you know why DaemonTools accesses the net and what can be done if you dont have access to the net on PC thats actually running DaemonTools

Okay, it looks like I might be adding to my planned arsenal of programs. Any spyware attached to these?

VobBlanker: http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

PgcEdit: http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html

...and are these the best locations to download from?

And to verify, there's no spyware, etc. with RipIt4Me, right?

Thanks again!

Man you're paranoid. No spyware exists in the programs we've discussed in this thread.

Wow, when you think everyone is oblivious to the world of spyware and adware, and then there is a person who is too careful!

As rack said, there are not any viruses/spyware/adware in the programs discussed.

Okay, thanks!

(I used to not know anything about spyware, then got some with a free program, and am now super careful... Better safe than sorry.)

I downloaded Daemon Tools yeterday and installed it on my 2nd PC which is NOT connected to the internet. It kept trying to get on and wouldnt complete the install without an internet connection.

(DaemonTools_WhenUSaveNow_Installer.exe is now attempting to connect to the INternet to properly install your software components.)

I was wondering why. After researching for the last few hours I found out why. Apparently "When U Save Now" is an adware package that installs a search bar on your PC. Its will not remove itself from your PC and from what I hear runs in the background. You have to go to registry to remove. Now I have to install another program to be able to mount an ISO file to my PC. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
And to Bosko, I admire your diligence and careful approach. Always research and ask questions. Thats what forums like this are for. Sometimes the price you pay for a good free program is more than what you know. With that said I LOVE PcgEdit and it has NEVER given me issues. Neither has RipItForMe, Shrink or Decrypter.

P.S. SOooooo, Rack is right about all the progs here being safe (wite the exception of DAEMON TOOLS, which I bought up). And Chong, I think you can never be too careful, especially after what just happened to me. I d/l Daemon at the advice of someone on the Rip It For Me forum and Im sure he was just trying to help.

You have the option not to install "When U Save Now" when installing Daemon Tools. Just don't click the Next button indiscriminately.
