hello everybody,

I have a PAL DVD in widescreen format and I'd like to get rid of black bars on the top and the bottom and make the final image to be 4:3. The frame size is 720 x 576

Is there a script I could use for this ?

TIA

If you have a 16:9 image letterboxed into a 4:3 frame, and you want to zoom the image to make it 16:9 without black bars, the script would be something like:

mpeg2source("[filename of the d2v file from DGIndsex]")
crop(0,72,0,-72)
lanczos4resize(720,576)

But it's not clear from the thread title and your explanation if this is exactly what you want to do?

If it's a PAL DVD in Widescreen format like you've said, then the black bars on the top and bottom that you see on your 4:3 monitor aren't part of the picture.

They're nothing. The TV is just filling that space with Black.

. . .but I'm not 100% sure that's what you mean.

ok, if my calculations are correct I should

crop(90,72,-90,-72)

Yes, that's correct but of course you will lose the edges of the image.

The alternative is, if you really don't want balck bars, to not crop the edges and have everthing tall and thin. Or crop a bit and stretch a bit. Or just buy a widescreen telly! :D
