I need some advice on an upgrade to be able to play these kinds of things on my media pc. I currently have a Pentium 4 and an ATI x1300 graphics card. When I play .TS (MPEG-2 files) it plays great. But when I play WMV, VC-1, H.264, HD-DVD, It barely plays them. Lots of studdering and skipping around. Playing Fast and Furiuos Tokyo Drift HD-DVD version, I hear sound, but no picture. I am assuming I need a CPU upgrade. But maybe a new graphics processor, too. I know ATI's driver do not do proper decoding of VC-1 or H.264 in hardware. So, I am asking for your opinions on what I need to upgrade to properly playing Hi-Def stuff on this system? Thanks for your time.

Wrong thread, but anyway:

I just got myself nvidia 7600GT. My very old Radeon 9600 SE played it fine when overclocked, but couldn't handle more than an hour of VC-1.

In general, nvidia cards are better today for HD stuff.

I would be interested to know whether anybody has had success with playing back any of their HD DVD backups through Windows Media Center 2005. I currently use the My Movies interface and don't think their is a solution for playing these backups yet.

If anyone has had any success, please post.

Hi, I have a Toshiba P100 Laptop with MCE2005. But for playing HD-DVD from hdd I use Power DVD 6.5 which works great, but the menu. :D
Have not tried it with Media Center, I think it uses the Media Player. This is not working.

Hope that helps.

i doubt this will work... mce was designed for dvd playback (gallery hack, etc).
