View Full Version : Audio from radio and video from TV. How to?

Hi all,
I will be recording the Super Bowl on my WinTV card (mpeg2). I will also be recording the local radio broadcast with H-Q in mp3 format. These 2 recordings will be occurring on separate computers.
After the game is complete, I will have 2 files. One will be the audio/video from the TV and one will be just the audio from the radio. The TV signal will be delayed about 10 seconds vs. the radio broadcast.
What I would like to do is combine the audio from the radio and the video from the TV. I'm not sure what tools to use and I'm not even sure what terms to use for searching in case this project is SOP.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi!
1) Use "TMPGEnc" to Demultiplex the video/audio MPEG2.
2) Use "TMPGEnc" to Multiplex the resultant .M2V videostream with your .MP3 audiostream
GO BEARS!That may be a tough dream to fulfill ;>}

Thanks very much, setarip_old.
I'll have to do some testing.

Bear fan who lives in Indy. Either I end up a very happy fan (Bears win) or I end up living in a very happy city (Colts win). Not bad. The Colts radio broadcaster is hilarious. He either goes overboard with excitement or suicidal with depression. I can't listen to him live (because of the delay) but will enjoy listening to him on repeat viewings.

you'll have mad sync problems.
try capture the audio uncompressed, because you'll need to do heavy re-editing.
to clarify - all quartz clocks run at different speeds, and can vary depending on heat and other factors. your video will be digitized with a different clock to your audio, and so they'll start at the same time but drift out by a varying amount. you'll need to heavily edit the audio to fit the video (something like Audition that can load video and "drag clip edges" to resample will be useful).
try to do all audio editing in 32 bit float, as you'll likely be resampling several times and losing precision with each one.
once they are in sync you can encode your audio to the destination format and mux with TMPG

Mug Funky,
Yes, I've considered that sync would become a major problem. Unfortunately, I'm not skilled enough to perform the corrective steps necessary.
I've had a new thought. Suppose I recorded the TV (video) and the radio (audio) onto a vcr? Then capture the tape onto the computer? Under this scenario however, I would have to run the audio into the computer then delay the signal by about 10 seconds (to sync up with the video) before sending the audio to the vcr.
I've tried playing (via WMP) the recorded audio while it's still recording, but that doesn't work (it only plays to the point that the recording was when I started playing, then stops).
Is there any way I can delay the audio within the computer before sending it to the vcr?
Note: I cannot utilize the WinTV card for this project because that card will be recording the actual TV broadcast (video and audio).
