View Full Version : DivX 6.5 makes Windows Media Player 10 crash...

I did the update to the latest version 6.5, but then Windows Media Player 10 crashed (when opening DivX avi file)...

my solution: changed 'Post processing level' of the 'Playback' tab to value 'Off' (instead of 'Automatic deblocking'), now WMP10 doesn't crash anymore...

I'm running Win XP pro SP2 (AMD Athlon Xp 2400+ on MSI K7N2 Delta mobo), why does DivX 6.5 make WMP crash, when previous version didn't? will playback quality be lower now?

on my laptop it works just fine, but I've got WMP 9 on it...

another question, sometimes the brightness of video is much lower, other times much higher? I think it has something to do with 'Overlay' feature when I have Intervideo WinDVR (pc tv) on? (this happens with all mpeg and avi files, so probably all video files)

many thanks for any help or info...

Regards

6.5 is making explorer.exe crash here
I think streaming files over the network is doing it

Hi guys,

We're looking into it right now, I will hopefully have a patch for you to test shortly.

the crashing of explorer: I've had that too, but not anymore, here's how I used to solve it:

using the following command at the command line (MS-prompt=the dos in Windows XP):

regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

This will turn off the pesky component that gets information from the media files.
Explorer will also feel much quicker when clicking on AVI files for those who have slower pc's.
If you want to turn this functionality back on, use regsvr32 shmedia.dll at the command line.

or

disable 'Context Menu Shell Extension' (cause: AliveVideoConverter)

1) Download and installShellExView (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html) a small prog that lets you see all the shell extensions you have installed.

2) Open ShellExView and find the 'Avi Properties Handler', right-click and 'disable'.

so if you do that, you won't be able to see the avi file properties (and possible also no icon preview) (like resolution, bitrate etc.)

No it doesn't,
I have been change DivX Codec from bug problem 6.5 to new one but still have problem with my Media Player codec, My Xilisoft DVD Ripper and also my AC3 filter system. I am really upset, have to play DVD using VLC cannot function my Windows Media Centre correctly. I have to reinstall every thing from my AC3 codec filter and file, Valex AC3-DTS, my Win Media Player 11, my Xilisoft Ripper Platinum and many thing. Right now I am not have any DivX player or codec installing in my computer, as have to test ripping my DVD first using my Xilisoft, if sound not appears as before then perhaps have to reformat my computer.

I Confirm some decoding problems on WMPplayer (and Others) also with the last release 6,5,1 of DivX codec.

The problem occurs when video noise is activate, or generally when a custom settings of decoder is done.

What are the full list of custom settings for the decoder? What are the problems that you are seeing? Can you post some screenshots from CPU-Z?

Without this information I can not track down any potential problems.

sorry, it's not full custom settings, but custom deblocking settings.

No it doesn't,
I have been change DivX Codec from bug problem 6.5 to new one but still have problem

Cannot solve problem at all after some reinstallation, still my Xilisoft loose their performance to rip DVD sound. Perhaps some file changing in the first installation with DivX 6.5 make lost one or two chain in sound coding in my Media Player.

I hate doing this but seems reformat is the only way. I am loosing my passion
