I'm not sure what I did, but I noticed that smartripper went from 3x-8x arerage to 1-1.7x. This happened right after I was testing several different burning programs to see which I liked best. I did a system restore back to a point prior to these tests and smartripper can back to life. My laptop was doing the same, but I didn't have restore activated on it so I had to reload windows on it to fix. I'm not positive, but I suspect blindwrite. It installed a driver call something like pan caufin which I did not reinstall after I fixed and everything is ok now. I did vote on the burner poll, after trying several, I like fireburner v1.06 and clone.

your dma option was removed when you were testing burning programs.
go to control panel select system and select devices then check the properties of your dvd rom, then go to settings tab and ensure dma is checked. you will need to restart your computer
