Hi, i wondered what method i should use to convert DVD to VCD at the highest quality VCD possible.

Im not after anyone to point me to any guides or anything, just a quick overview of what is needed.

Thanks in advance :D

I have had much success using DVDx 1.6

The settings I use and get the best quility/preformance ratio are as follows.

Input:
ADO=normal with the gain to 4
iDCT =MMX
AV Synch checked
Deinterlace with interpolate

Output:
VCD
VDO Bit rate =1150
ADO =224
Motion Search =Normal
REZ 352x240
Zoom =Full
Resize SSe BiCubic

On my 800Mhz IBM Think Pad with 256meg
It takes me about 6 hours to rip and encode a 120 movie
at about 7-9/fps

Hope this helps.

Ok thanks, i will try these settings.

However i would just like to mention when i tried using DVDx before i found i got better results with frameserving into TMPEG, have you ever tried this method? :D

That’s something I’m looking into right now.
When ever I can find the time.
I hope I can get just a little better quality,
but not on a huge expense on performance.

Hi

I've found i've got the best results by framserving into tempgenc as well.

If you really want higher quality try SVCD.

Cheers

I normally encode to SVCD, but i was simply gonna try to find what the best results are possible from VCD.

Thanks for the tip anyhow ;)
