PowerDVD forced me to upgrade to Nvidia 92.91 drivers (IIRC, at work and can't be positive). Those drivers caused everything to be really red on my screen. The opening scene of Riddick where he's running across the ice planet was purple. I found a newer version of Nvidia beta drivers at guru3d.com that solved my color problems.

You don't do anything wrong. You need to folllow the guide from 2themax described here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120842&page=2

I did watch the movie 3 weeks ago with english track.
But i can't remeber if i used 6.5 or 7.1.
From the Harddisk i had only the German track,i didn't know
the HVDVD_TS,ADV_OBJ trick then.
I will check and send you a PM later,so we don't get to much
off topic here.

I think there is two HD DVD's without protection. It's Running Scared and some concert.

Play's fine in PowerDVD ultra, except you can't use the menu other than play/pause :\. But i managed to change audio tracks with the audio icon on the control-bar thing.

Great forum guys! Thanks to all that have made backing up HD DVD's a success.

I was wondering if somebody could help with with the .xpl file for Enter the Dragon. Attached is the one I'm trying to use but can't get to work.

If anybody had any suggestions or could post their working .xpl for Enter the Dragon that would be great.

Thanks

I have relocated a few posts out of the "development threads" to a new thread here (more to come).

Please post specific problems in decrypting HD-DVD (and BluRay) in this thread (or a thread of your own) instead of clogging up the development threads. Those threads should stay focussed on the development of the various programs and concepts.

Thanks!

Did you check whether the key you are using to decrypt is the correct one? I just released a small tool to do this (see other thread on this forum).

Using Powerdvd 7.1, only have King Kong to play with. backed up HD-dvd fine, fixed IME issues fine, but HDDVD playback is still messed up (video wise). It's very distorted and off center. Even when i make the window bigger, its the same amount of picture seen.

I think the screenshot will explain everything though:

What is going on?

I have no idea what my problem is, but I decrypted Unforgiven with the C# decrypter and the EVOs play fine in PDVD 6.5. However, when I try and open the disc there is audio but no video (black screen). I later decrypted Blazing Saddles and that seems to work just fine in 6.5 save the menus (which I believe is a program problem).

Any idea what would cause the disc not to play correctly in PDVD when the EVOs play fine on their own? As far as I remember it doesn't have IME so none of those funky problems are an issue.

[EDIT]
I just realized that if I play the movie at >1x speed I can see parts of the video flash behind the blackness. I took the movie out of the closet and tried to decrypt it again but the same issue is still present.

I am having the same issue with Nacho Libre .. the EVOs pay fine but using the "Play HDDVD from Hard drive" gives me blank screen + audio. I don't think its an issue with my version of BackupHDDVD though .. lets see if I can figure this out ...

EDIT:

Just tried AnyDVD HD and it has the same issue with Nacho Libre. I am pretty sure it is PDVD 6.5 now. Too bad I cant get PDVD 7.1 to work with my PC.

I have one question.

My back ups play fine now. Just open with "dvd on harddisc", and everything start to play. Powerdvd 7.1

As these are movies encoded in 23.9 fps, I set my HD projector, a Sony Ruby to 47.95.

But, something strange. I had some stuttering, so I used Reclock. When I start the movies, 3 of my 4 back ups are stated like this:

resolution 720 x 480:eek:   speed 29.95.

This means reclock analyze this as it was a regular dvd-file. I have to clocks, on my display, I get these figures on one of them, the other do not give more information. it analyze well my display.

Now is Reclock wrong? Why does it says this is 720x480?
Does Powerdvd downscale these files?
Why does one of the 4 "back ups" is recognized as HD Material and the others not?

I have a HDCP computer, X2 Athlon, using not more then 65 % cpu.

Somebody have some idea? A part from the resolution matters it is also important to output the right refreshment-rate to my display!

Thanks!!!

@indieke

try to install anydvd hd and try to play the hd-dvd you wan't.powerdvd does downscale files, if the monitor is not hdcp compatible. anydvd hd remove also the hdcp protection, so perhaps it works now.. and you got 1920x1080

Some movies are playing without stuttering with 1080p24
and the Sony Pearl. But there are also some which don't work correctly.
Sometimes in the xpl files are the values timeBase 60fps and
tickBase 60 fps. With some movies it seems to work if you
change tickbase to 24 fps.

Canal Plus have some weird XPL files - seems that PDVD doesnt like them much :(

I have same issue with La Haine HD-DVD - i tried to rewrite XPL, but with no luck so far.

I am pretty sure that the problem is with the way Studio Canal masters their titles. I own three Studio Canal HD-DVDs and they don't play for me either (Tried it under PowerDVD 6.5 and WinDVD 8 on two different systems). Had to decrypt the two feature files, and watch those separately, without menues, etc. I'll poke at the XML some more in my copious spare time, but if someone figures it out in the meanwhile, I am sure instructions would be most welcome.

The following worked for me,but it's an ugly workaround, that loses menus, etc.

I decrypted Rambo to the hard drive, using BackupHDDVD, then used Pelican9's evodemux, and remuxed the two feature files to contain only the video track and the audio track I wanted (in my case, second track - English). Then, after some tweaking, the file played in PowerDVD, but had slight audio allignment problems.

It took me a couple of tries, since PowerDVD didn't like playing just the EVO (and of course lots of disk space). Did this a couple of weeks ago, and thus am a bit hazy as to what I had to do to get it to work.

Thread on demuxing EVOs (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=120652) (really long, you might as well start reading from around page 20 :-)

Direct link to evodemux (http://pel.hu/down/EVOdemux.exe)

EVOdemux changelog (http://www.pel.hu/down/EVOdemux.txt)

Maybe this helps.

The XPL File can be edited. In the Primary AudioVideo Clip section
you can delete the lines with AudioTrack 1 + 2.
Then renumber the german Tracks as AudioTrack 1 .
Don't change the streamnumber,it must stay number 3 !
In the Track Navigation you must delete AudioTrack 1+2 too
and renumber the german Audio Track to 1.

For english track you can do the same by deleting Audio Track1
and renumbering. At the moment you can't switch to German
but maybe with a newer version of a Softwareplayer this will be possible.

it works now thanks.
i think slysoft should release a new version of anydvdhd as soon as possible.
it should not be very difficult to make a program where you can select only the subtitles and language that you want. like clonedvd but for hd-dvd movies.

best regards

You cant switch subtitles and audio tracks in Canal Studio releases, because some moron wrote XPL for them - they all marked as non selectable :(

To correct that open XPL and find all occurances of "selectable=false" and make it "selectable=true".
Now you can change subtitles and audio tracks in PDVD.

Don't really know where to post this, so decided to put it here.
I've got a backup of Constantine HD-DVD, but unable to play menu. Actually I don't physically see any .evo files concerning menu, something like MAINMENU.EVO or MENULOOP.EVO. and any words about these files in .XPL neither.
Popup menu also out of order.
Everything else is played perfectly - the only annoying thing is that I can't switch off subtitles without menu.
Unfortunately I don't have an original disc - only backup.
I can post my file structure here.
If someone has this movie - please respond.
Tnanx in advance.

Did anybody successfully get Poseidon, US release to work? I've tried both BackupHDDVD and AnyDVD HD - all the EVOs play just fine except for the main feature.. when attempting to play, PDVD 6.5 crashes, and the audio is all chopped up (it keeps playing until you click away the crash message).. it has all those glitches you get when the signal gets bad in digital TV reception, and the player seems to think the audio switches between 2.0 ch and 5.1 ch.
Same thing goes for Terminator 3.

I'm having a problem getting Batman Begins to backup. I tried BackupHDDVD (C#). I started it up last night and when I got up this morning, it was at 30000%... any ideas why this happened? Any solutions?

Thanks

ps. King Kong backed up fine for me.

I think there is two HD DVD's without protection. It's Running Scared and some concert.

Play's fine in PowerDVD ultra, except you can't use the menu other than play/pause :\. But i managed to change audio tracks with the audio icon on the control-bar thing.

And the EUR Version of DOWNFALL / DER UNTERGANG. This HD is also NOT AACS protected. Just copy over to HDD and run.

When copying Running Scared to HDD the menue won't work. It's stuck at the Play/Resume button.

I started watching the main feature evo last night.
PowerDVD Ultra 7.1 - digital -hdcp monitor.
It would not play from the main root folder
I had to select the individual evo file to play the movie.
Poseidon,US release only able to play manually via evo files.

I have a little correction to make: T3 ripped to HD worked when played with PowerDVD 7.1. I did not try Poseidon yet, but one of my "crashes for sure" titles, the European version of Doom also played just fine. I guess the only good thing about PowerDVD 6.5 is that it doesn't downscale arbitrarily.

V for Vendetta (original or ripped) plays fine with PDVD 7.1, but 6.5 refuses to play anything including original, ripped, with AnyDVD HD, without AnyDVD HD..It refuses to play .EVO files as well.

I've tried to edit the XPL-file, but still no luck. "The Thing" must have already been solved...

I'm just getting scrambled green/black. Sound is ok.

I use PowerDVD 7.2 Ultra HD.
