just to elaborate
"Don't delete any files This is required if you wish to use Crash Recovery option. With this option (excluding vobs 6-7GB and 3GB CD images) a good 7GB-9GB is needed."
is what it says in the newbie reference
so i take it that with delete files unticked a max of 7+3+9 = 19 gig is required to be safe.
what is a safe size for a partition with files deleted ?

good question...next time I do a long 3 hour dvd I'll see..my guess is 2-3GB for .bin .cue, 5-7GB vobs...those are the same regardless of the checked delete or not....but if checked (to delete, hope I got that right) then I'd guess about 3-4GB should be safe.

Are the VOB files also deleted when the delete files option is checked ???
I have several DVD stored on harddisk that I would like to convert to SVCD. I used another ripper to rip the DVD to harddisk. Will these VOB files also be lost when I check the delete files option. Or are only the "in between" files deleted with this option

only the intermediate files are deleted. so your vob files will still be there when done.

Thanks,
Now I will wait for the new release of DVD2SVCD. Seems to be a problem with subtitles in DVD2SVCD 1.0.5 build 3. The author already mentioned that he is working on it. :D

Anyone else feel there should be a "Delete all temporary files" option that will delete everything up to whatever your final stage gave you?

actualy, even with "don't delete files" unchecked, you can use crash recovery. The only difference is that you will have less options of recovery. For example, if you need to redo vcdimage creation, you will need to do crash recovery from:
a)"don't delete" on: svcd authoring
b)"don't delete" off: muxing and cutting.
as you can see, option b will add bbmpeg re-work in the process.

For whoever wanted to know how much space a 3 hour film would use without deleting any files.well pearl harbour takes up about 17.5 gig.so really to be safe you ought to be looking at around 20 gig free.
