I am using vista RTM. KMPlayer lets me choose an Enhanced Video Renderer available in Vista.
Is it recommended to use it?
What are the advantages?
Also please let me know which video renderer is recommended for Vista..

Moved to software players. Several people have asked about it, but I've yet to see any good information on actual benefits. The MSDN docs (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms694916.aspx) aren't clear (aside from supporting more simultaneous streams, which isn't a particular benefit). It may be that it simply works through Aero better than VMR modes.

EVR = no more tearing. You could do that in VMR9 with renderless exclusive mode, but software for that was always a bit clunky, to put it kindly.

It's also better behaved in a number of other ways, such as less jitter/framedrop when you resize or move the window.

When I've got time, I'll do some screenshot/calibration stuff. I have a faint suspicion they've improved scaling also.

Will VMR9 allow you to get that screenshot? No. So how is this a limitation of the EVR?

wrong... i can make SS with the VMR9 renderer even if i dont like it at all coz of the slowness and the color range (PC to TV) correction.

If you can make a screenshot of something with the VMR9, you can make a screenshot of it with EVR too. Think about it. The only situation in which the EVR could possibly prevent you from taking a screenshot is if the entire video path leading up to it was protected too (thus passing down such a restriction to the renderer). But if you can make that same content play in an unprotected path with VMR9, then you ought to be able to make it play in an unprotected path with EVR too.
