I've tried both Media Player Classic (MPC) 6.4.8.5 and 6.4.9.0 (latest "official" english version) and it will hitch (aka stutter) badly even though the CPU usage never goes above 40%.
In mplayer2 (windows media player 6.4) and in windows media player 9+, it plays just fine.
I re-encoded the file using Avisynth and vdubmod to make a divx3 and a wmva (wmv9 advanced) AVI versions which have similar hitching issues in MPC only. The divx3 version seems to have less than the wmv versions and I noticed that 6.4.9.0 is slightly better than 6.4.8.5.
I'm playing the 1080 version of the coral reef example by MS.
