View Full Version : Video Size Uniformity

I am ripping a 4 part series. So far I've ripped 2 parts but the video sizes aren't as close as I'd like. Since it is a series I would prefer all 4 parts be equal screen sizes but this seems impossible to do.
The first one came out at 512x384 which was fine. However, part 2 came out 576x432, which was also ok but I'd like all 4 parts to be the same.
I've tried Auto and used the same output MB size but that didn't do it, didn't think it would. I've tried setting the width manually but the height always comes out different.
What's the best way to get all four parts as close to uniform as I can? Thx!

Hi,
When upscaled to TV (720*576 lines for PAL) or Computer screen (800/1024/1152 width or more) you should not notice the difference between different width.
The first one came out at 512x384 which was fine. However, part 2 came out 576x432, which was also ok but I'd like all 4 parts to be the same.

If you really want to get the 4 parts as close as possible you will need to provide more infos for each part:
- width and height
- quality percentage after 1st pass and size
After it should be possible to get an average size (or quality) related to an average width or an average width related to an average quality. For the height I'm afraid you will have to crop manually to re-introduce some top/bottom black bars.
So it is not so easy but do-able in AGK.
DO you really want/need it?

Click the Advanced Options and select a width. When you force a file size, AutoGK will automatically select a width that best suits the bitrate needed for that file. If you select 576, for example, all your encodes of that series will be 576 x 432

Hi CWR03,
Absolutely right if sources have same dimensions but
...I've tried setting the width manually but the height always comes out different... this statement triggered my previous construction/elucidation.
This is an unbearable anguish :D
Diaboyos, please let us know the final word about it ;)

I'm going to have to rip the second part again. I'm in the midst of trying to splice off 9 minutes and apparently I messed up the original. I'll set the width to the same as part one and see how it comes out. I tried this before and though they had the same width the height was different.
I'm hoping PGC3 doesn't automatically get included this time. I only chose PGC2 and it's a pain trying to splice the extra 9 minutes out.

I must have overlooked the part where you said you tried the width setting and it didn't come out the same, but under the hidden options (Ctrl + F9) you can force 16:9 or 4:3. Remember that it's a "per encode" setting and will revert to default on your next batched job.
The differences in height of your encodes may be because of a slight difference in cropping (which you can also adjust manually within the hidden options to aid you in achieving the same output resolution on all four parts). I don't use AutoGK much, but when I do I prefer to use GordianKnot to set the crop and aspect the way I like it, then transfer those settings to AutoGK.

I thought AGK and GK were the same thing, some people were just using a shorter version of the same name to save time.
Wow and I thought AGK was a little complex, I just opened GK and it's settings galore!
I'll mess with it but tell me. Once you tweak your settings to exactly what you want how do you get AGK to stick to them?

Unfortunately only the settings under the Advanced Options are kept until you change them. Any changes made to the Hidden Options will revert to default as soon as you add a job to the list or close AutoGK.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I meant once you tweak the settings in GordianKnot, how do you use those settings in AGK?

You have to enter the numbers manually. Make sure you check the box and set autocropping to 0.
