finding a dvd decoder

this question might just be too newbish for doom9, but here goes.

i don't have a way of playing dvds on my computer right now. i've got an ati radeon x850, which doesn't seem to offer a decoder, and i've got a cheap-ass generic dvd drive that doesn't come with any software. on my last computer, when i bought a vid card, it came with a decoder- now i'm looking around for something, and i can't seem to find anything that's both free and somewhat legitimate-looking.

any suggestions?

Download and install the excellent freeware "VLC Player"...

thanks, that works. :) i know that some software installs a codec so that you can watch dvds with windows media player as well- do you know any like that?

Any commercial software DVD player, such as PowerDVD or WinDVD, will do that.
