Bitrate above maximum

When choosing Advanced Simple Profile @ L5 the maximum bitrate is supposed to be 8mbit/s.

However, what if your material takes more than that (despite the restriction, which I suppose would not work in 1 pass)? Will the resulting stream still be standard compliant?

And what about the unrestricted profile, is that better to use in case you're going to end up with bitrate above 8mbit/s anyway?

I don't think I quite understand your question; VBV should only work in second pass of a 2-pass encoding. Yes, if you go one-pass, the unrestricted profile is a safe bet for maximum quality. That primarily depends on your other XviD-settings though.

Yes my question might've been confusing.

Simply put, is using unrestricted profile "standard compliant" with the mpeg-4 standard? Ie. can an mpeg-4 decoder written to full specs decode it?

Or is it jusk a hack-type solution that might also possibly stop working with never versions of xvid decoder.

Hope this makes it more clear what I'm trying to ask here :)
