Look on your XP installation disc for the user migration tool (File and Settings Transfer Wizard).
It will take care of migrating all your user settings/documents on Me over to XP.
See http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/mgrtfset.mspx for a detailed explanation.

It has been ages since I used WinMe but in XP you can open Outlook Express go to Tools / Options / Maintenance / Store Folder to find the location where it saves all your messages. Copy all of the files there to a safe place and put them back in that directory after your fresh install.
You may need to select View Hidden / System Files possibly the Hide Protected setting as well via your Explorer to see them. Here is an example of the default path on my system if it helps: C:\Documents and Settings\YourLoginNameHere\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{BunchOfNumbersHere}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
This is just for your emails, do the Export function to save your contact addresses. I imagine WinMe uses the same EO file setup. This works for future reference when you want to redo a fresh install of XP again.
Cheers,
Rick
