View Full Version : Change the AR flag in an mpg video?

I have a couple videos (mpg format), and it seems that they all have the wrong aspect ratio flag set. I've tried playing them with VLC, WMP 10, and ZoomPlayer. When played full screen, the video has vertical black bars on each side (like it's letterboxed, only vertically.
The videos look fine if I manually set VLC to display 4:3. How do I change the file so that I don't have to do that?
Here is the Gspot info for the file:

I think you can do that with the application called Restream.

OK. I have Restream, but I am not sure what to change the AR to. If I change it to 4:3 the video becomes widescreen!
Also, can anyone suggest a better program to demux/mux? I am using TMPEGenc, but when I remux the streams, the file is a couple megabytes larger than the orginal.

If you remux it means it's gonna combine video and audio to make an output file right?? if you add the bytes of the video and the bytes of the audio plus some extra bytes this is it. some extra space
I am not sure if DGIndex is for demuxing, and MKVmerge is for muxing or remuxing. But check them out

DGIndex is great for demuxing, but it does not have an option to remux. MKVmerge is just for creating Matroska files.

I found a copy of MPEG Video Wizard DVD. It allowed me to remux the streams and the resulting file is the exact same size as the original. Problem solved.
Now my only question is why I had to set the AR to 1:1 using ReStream. Why would setting it to 4:3 make it look widescreen?
