Emon,
Yes I tried to turn it off from the title menu, but this didn't work. Also used the button on the PDVD control panel but that just scrolls through all the different subtitles and doesn't allow me to turn them off.
I'm probably going to try 7.1 unless somebody else has a quick fix.
Thanks Emon

Did you try clicking the subtitle that was currently turned on?

I do not think we should modify the .XPL file (or at least you should make sure that you keep the original somewhere). If there are some problems in the players, they should be fixed with a patch sometime soon...

I've tried it w/ 7.1, and it works just fine, like in the original :D

Not quite sure how to do this, please explain.
I did press the U button on the keyboard to toggle around all of the different subs, but there was always some kind of sub being displayed.

I believe it is a problem with the PDVD player software itself (in some posts you will see other people mentioning this also). It has nothing to do with the Emon (or Zotty) application.
I have it also with the original disc (i.e. before making the Backup). Have you tried to play back with the disc and turn of the subtitles? With me it does not work for certain discs (like e.g. Jarhead).
I use PDVD 7.1.

Emon, What all do you have to edit to add a movie to this software. I added it to KEYDB.cfg and it worked fine on the movie but the menu piece says there is no title key. Any thoughts?

@ Emon
great work you did on the latest version. For me it was the fastest one yet. Took me 55 min to back up M:I 3.
Using PDVD 6.5 I open HD-DVD from hard drive and the menu pops up where to select the languages. But selecting one language does not do anything. And I can`t get out of the menu. What am I doing wrong?
I changed the xml afterwards, deleted all I did not want and it worked fine.
Anyways, thanks for that great tool.:D

Fantastic...
BTW I got the the subtitles off of Casino upgrading to 7.1.
Now a new problem with The Matador. Just used your program and when I try to play through PDVD7.1 I get a message that the movie is unable to play due to parental settings.
I can't seem to find any parental settings in 7.1
Edit: The player won't even play the original disc, so it is definately not a problem with you program.

I used this program to decrypt Unforgiven. However, when I try and play certain EVOs in WinDVD8 or the entire folder in PDVD 6.5 all I get is a black screen for the feature movie and various special features. In PDVD I get audio during the blank screen. The .xpl looks good; no references to AACS or any thing of that nature. I didn't seen anything in any of the other threads I read through that might fix it, or else I just missed any pertinent information. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Black screen during playback points to a bad decryption. That`s what was said somewhere in the original thread. Maybe you should start looking for the problem at this end.
I had the same issue the first time I did KK. But especially with EMON`s tool it works great. :)

When I clicked the button "Reconstruct menu" in the process of decrypting, and after I closed program the decrypting proccess was not stopped and the process BackupHDDVD.exe left hanging in the memory.
Maybe disable button "Reconstruct Menu" during the decrypting ?

Another. Your program uses cfg format, while aca_decrypter - xml ? But it is not convenient.

It's really annoying that people keep on posting stupid comments like this. Your decrypting time is going to be 95% based on the speed of the HD-DVD drive, so how efficient java vs C/C++/C# is makes absolutely no difference. And even if it did make any difference, if you do any actual benchmarks java is just as fast. All that really matters is how bug-free and easy to read the code is, which java is perfect for.
but we still continue to get the same comment for the umpteenth time:
remove the java version from this and the key.cfg, lets just keep c# and .xml.

I have a similiar problem, although I suspect the reason is that I dont have a video card with an HDMI output on it. The following was observed on the King Kong disk that came with the XBox HD DVD drive:
WinDVD8 simply refuses to play the encrypted disk at all, so unfortunately I can't locate any keys myself. PDVD6.5 will play the disk for a few seconds, but then stop with the error "This content is protected and this system in not able to play back this content."
After ripping the disk with BackuoHDDVDGUI to the hard drive, PDVD6.5 will play the disk, but the feature is an entirely black screen. The Audio works fine.
However, playing the decrypted 'Feature_1.evo' using the Sonic HD Demuxer and Sonic Cinemaster Video Decoder 4.1 in Graphedit will play the video just fine, only theres no seeking (I recall something about the Sonic HD Demuxer not preserving timestamps or such). I havent tried the new Elecard demuxer filter yet.
I've read that PDVD6.5 should work on decrypted disks, but it does not. My assumption is that in order for me to play the decrypted movie, it either needs its HDMI flag removed during decryption, or it will need to be muxed into a different container that plays using filters that ignore the flag. Or I could buy a new video card, but I'm one of those guys with the older $3000 HDTV that only has component inputs...
Am I missing something here, or is this pretty much where I'm at??

The HDCP restrictions should be removed during decryption. You may just need to update the drivers for your video card. PDVD 7.1 won't play anything back from my xb360 drive due to the HDCP thing. After ripping to HDD and playing it PDVD gave me a warning about video drivers. After upgrading the drivers it works great even though I'm only using a 6600GT (definitely not HDMI capable). If you have an Nvidia card try upgrading to 92.91 drivers. The 92.91 gave me some funky color issues so I found an even later beta version at guru3d that worked great.

You must mean HDCP where you wrote HDMI. HDMI is an interface standard like DVI, while HDCP is content protection primarly used toghter with HDMI interfaces.
It doesn´t really matter if you use an HDMI socket or DVI socket, what matters with content protected video is if the output you use is HDCP capable or not and if the monitor/TV supports HDCP too.

Is there a backup procedure written down anywhere? I am reading through all the info but theres alot to read. Thx for the help. Nice app BTW.
It's super easy. After downloading the app make sure you have MS .Net 2 (or maybe 3?). Then just run the C# exe and choose your HD-DVD drive and the folder you want to backup to (can't miss those two fields). Next, click on the Database tab and select your movie from the list. Once that is done, return to the Backup tab and click "Start Backup". When that is completed (Unforgiven took me an hour) click on "Reconstruct Menu". Once that finishes your backup is complete.
Now, if your movie isn't in the current database you'll have to look online for the Volume Key of the disc and the SHA1 hash. Worst case you try and run the disc in WinDVD8 or PDVD. Unless you have some expensive gear it'll probably fail, but so long as it even tries to play a frame you should be able to use "hddvd_vukeyfinder" afterwards to get the Volume Key. I'm not sure how to get the SHA1 hash, though. Provided you get those two you can enter them in and then backup the disc as noted above.
EDIT
I should note that the vukeyfinder can be obtained from this thread with instructions:

Just try to backup a disc even if it's not in the database. You will see the disc hash displayed in the status window.

While I LOVE this program, I am having some mixed results and am wondering if it is the player. So far, the ONLY working HD-DVD with menus I have made is Harry Potter. This works from intro to movie to end. I have made several other's that refuse to work. (Goodfellas, Corpse Bride and V for Vendetta).
As Vendetta is the only one out of those 3 with IME, I thought it would work as the "fix" was implemented into 0.5, no such luck. It would play the whvlogo and then the player would just stop. This also happens on Corpse and Goodfellas.
Any ideas? I'm using Powerdvd 6.5 btw.

its so far kind of hit or miss. I have same problem with Lady in the Water and couldn't figure out why the menu didn't work for this movie. The Movie did play from the HD once I removed the "PlaylistApplication" tag from the .XPL file. This tag is basically the menu so once I removed it the movie just played fine without a menu.
So my recommendation would be to remove that tag if you just want to play the movie. We just have to wait until someone (maybe it would be me :D) figures out whats the issue with these menus.

I just made a backup for V and Serenity without any problems, menus are there.
I have subtitles in Serenity being on by default after decrypting, just like in KK, but there are two ways to deal with this.
Other than that, everything is just perfect, thank you again Emon.

The Processing Key from the other thread should allow a program like this to decrypt the Title Key/Volume Unique Key on the disc without refernce to the key database. It could then compare that key to the key in the key database and:
if they are the same, use it,
if they are different, tell the user and let him try either one. This probably means the database is wrong, but might mean the processing key does not work for every disc as currently believed or that the MKBs on the discs have been changed to break the processing key, and
if there is no key in the key database, upload the key or tell the user and let him upload it.

Unless you have an HDCP compliant graphics card, one should use PowerDVD 6.5 and NOT 7.2 for playback of EVO rips - correct?
Second, purchasing 7.2 or their MCE plugin pack will NOT allow MCE to see the rips and play them - correct?

I'll start you off:
Section 3.2.4 of Introduction and Common Cryptographic Elements:
Once the device has the correct Device Key D, it calculates a Processing Key K using AES-G3 as described
above. Using that Processing Key K and the appropriate 16 bytes of encrypted key data C, the device calculates
the 128-bit Media Key Km as follows:
Km = AES-128D(K, C) ⊕ (00000000000000000000000016 || uv)
The appropriate encrypted key data C is found in the Media Key Data Record in the Media Key Block.
That gets you to the Media Key. It's in the specs how to get from there via the Volume ID to the Volume Unique Key and the Title Key.
