Gentelmen,
My "submux" is complaining that it only supports 4 or 8 bpp images for the subtitles.
Since I'm almost a newbie on this i have no idea if this is a configuration issue or an undocumented feature.
Anyway I've created a litle deplphi thing to convert all bmp to 4 or 8 bits.
Let me know if this is usefull and i'll post it. (completly free, with sources, copy left, gnu, gpl, etc, etc, etc).

Or for those that can't wait you can download it from
http://pagina.vizzavi.pt/~ng43603a/dvd2svcd/24to4/
It should create a backup of the original bmp files on the selected location under 24to4_bck, but, just in case... (you know what to) do...
Cheers

I am happy to report that I tested the little proggy that Barbas made, and it is a total success with 105b3!!!
I had it do it's deed when the audio extraction was going on.
SVCD Subtitles used to work up to 105b2, albeit in some backups, some of them (1 out of 6 average) were "transparent" (SubMux changed the main colour to black, so only the grey outline showed). Seems that 105b2 had a greater tolerance for 24b (or whatever they were) BMPs
Selectable subtitles show perfectly now.
Absolutely no problem now.
Cheers!

I now that this may seem stupid but to have the selectable subtitles do I have to have I-Author ? What do I need to do to have them.
Thanks

You don't need to have I-Author with 105b3. (Thank God....I mean DVD2SVCD...:) )
I use VCDXBuild for images with no problem.
Just get Barbas's program (24to4) to work sometime after the subtitle extraction and before SUBMUX, when it doesn't interfere with the rest of the operation (it only takes less than a minute), and I think you will be ok.
Provided of course that your standalone player supports either SVCD or CVD subtitles (Or both?).
Check by doing a small chapter in CBR mode.
My standalone doesn't support CVD subtitles, so I cannot check that.

Gentelmen,
This is a temporary quick & dirty hack.
Our beloved Author will solve this...
Barbas
ps: if I-Author is not supported anymore why do you insist in using it? Do you get something more?

I'm most certain he will!!!
But I also think that since officially he's still on holidays in warmer climates, he certainly has more important things to do than us poor nerds.
Have fun DVD2SVCD!!!

Here's a prerelease: http://212.88.77.140/DVD2SVCD-1.0.5-B4-Pre2.zip
Please test it.
But :( you have to start the entire rip from the beginning, because the subtitle ripping is at the beginning of the process.

:)Great :) You are my hero already stoped the conversion I was trying to make with the previouse version and restarted with this new version it seems much better the minimize option, the stuff about norton unrase removed, the priority settings :) Almost perfect.
By the way did you solve the problem of the image file size that doesn't fit on a 80 minute cd without overburning ?

Well I've already tryed and I must say that the 80 minuts bug wasn't solved yet :( Well but that's easy to solve just change to 795 :)
The SVCD subtiltes didn't work for me either and I saw in www.vcdhelp.com that my dvd is compatible with svcd subtitles well just gonna try with CVD, and change the -Y position back to -1 I set it to 465 because on the permanent subtitles it was the best position . Could it be because of this that they didn't work ?

Greets.
Although vcdhelp.com says my standalone is svcd-subtitles compatible, i tried the 1.05b4 both cvd and selectable, also both of them with vcdimager (last beta) and vcdxbuild.
Total, 4 failed attempts.
Anyone has experience with a Thomson dth-4200? If it really doesnt have svcd subtitling ill have to flame vcdhelp.com
plz help
thanks in advance.

I don't know about the Thomson, but 105b2 had a little "unintentional feature" with some subtitles. The computer idiot's (that's me...)way to check it: When Submux works, maximise it's window. If nothing but a dash appears, you are OK. Otherwise error messages appear. Then you can either use 24to4 (elsewhere in this thread) or 105b4pre2.
If still no subs appear, then write VCD help an e-mail to correct it. The VCDhelp list is made from user reports, which are not always accurate.
Also, when they say SVCD subtitles, almost always they mean CVD subtitles. Only the DVD player list on this site is 100% accurate, but it still has a long way to go.

I checked the logs now. submux worked perfectly.
Is there any software where i can read the .mpg AND have the subtitles? my versions of powerdvd and windvd are a bit outdated, so i dont know if the mpg really doesnt have the subtitles OR my 2 svcd players need an upgrade.
Thanks for your reply :)

You have to check it WHILE it's muxing the subs. To my knowledge, SUBMUX does not leave a log or a trace if something has gone wrong. If it has produced completely transparent subs or rejected them all, the DVD2SVCD log will still say: Muxing subtitles finished.
Also, there is no software DVD player that shows SVCD or CVD subs. (damn...) Only way to check it, is to burn it ....

Anyone else seeing this?
I see horizontal lines -- looks like underlining -- under some subtitles (SVCD style). Sometimes the lines are white, sometimes they are black, sometimes they are thick, sometimes they are thin. Most common is thin & white.
In one example, it happens on #6, #15, #16, #17, and #24 of the first 24 subtitles -- so about 1 out of every 5.
I'm guessing this is a submux bug, since the bitmaps (the .bmp files) look okay to me. I'm guessing that when submux processes the bitmaps it has some one-off errors or something like that and ends up generating one or two lines of garbage at the bottom in some cases.
So far I haven't heard anyone confirm or deny seeing this...
