View Full Version : Multiple audio streams in mp4 and naming them

First off, I'm new here. Everyone needs to start with something, from the bottom or further. But anyway, here's my first newbie post.

I'm creating a mp4 file, with 1 raw x264 and 2 AAC streams. No problems so far, using the mp4 Muxer tool within MeGui, I was able to combine all the files. I named the AAC streams "Psytrance" and "Rock" (since it are 2 music mixes) and took for both "English" as language.

* Opening in Media player classic, it plays without a problem and the tracks have their names: Psytrance (eng) and Rock (eng).

* With VLC media player, I was able to play both tracks, but the names were gone. They only named "Track1 - [English]" and "Track 2 - [English]"

* When playing in Windows media player,I had the option to choose tracks, but there was only one, which named "Audiotrack 1". So it only showed and played the first one (even with morgan stream switcher installed).

* In BS player, it went from bad to worse. Like in WMP, it only played the first track, but the option to choose was totally disabled...

So sorry for my 3 newbie questions :(, but here they come:

* For which players can I fix the problem to choose both tracks.

* Is there a way to name the audio streams so every player shows it correctly (f.ex. by changing the current language "english" to "psytrance" or "rock".

* Can I add more AAC streams to the mp4 container (since the mp4 muxer withing MeGui only allows 2).

I did some search on these problems, but couldn't find anything. :x

help on this would be appreciated.

thanks,

Hi there.
To your first two questions. I think its the players fault and there is not much you can do about it. For the direct show based players like WMP (don't know about BS Player) you could try to use an external mp4 splitter like Haali Media Splitter. (http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/)
You can add more than two audio tracks. I recomend to use YAMB (http://yamb.unite-video.com/), which is a GUI for mp4box. There is also a newer version of YAMB than on the page I linked. You can find it in the "New and Alternative AV Containers" part of this forum.

thanks for that, the haali Media Splitter works for Windows media player, although the movie shocks quite a bit. (I guess I need to cleanup my codecs :/)
YAMB also works, but I can't name any of the tracks like I could in MP4 Muxer (MeGui).

thanks for taking the time to reply

* Opening in Media player classic, it plays without a problem and the tracks have their names: Psytrance (eng) and Rock (eng).mpc is a good player

* With VLC media player, I was able to play both tracks, but the names were gone. They only named "Track1 - [English]" and "Track 2 - [English]"vlc simply doesnt seem to support reading out the names, but only the language

* When playing in Windows media player,I had the option to choose tracks, but there was only one, which named "Audiotrack 1". So it only showed and played the first one (even with morgan stream switcher installed).check the icon in the task bar from the haali media splitter. it should allow you to switch between audio streams

* In BS player, it went from bad to worse. Like in WMP, it only played the first track, but the option to choose was totally disabled...[/SIZE][/B]same as for wmp

* For which players can I fix the problem to choose both tracks.depends on the player. but the haali media splitter should work for all directshow based ones

* Is there a way to name the audio streams so every player shows it correctly (f.ex. by changing the current language "english" to "psytrance" or "rock".either the player supports it or not, there is no way you can influence this with the file itself

* Can I add more AAC streams to the mp4 container (since the mp4 muxer withing MeGui only allows 2).[/SIZE][/B]of course you can use more than 2, try yamb

I haven't used YAMB 1.6 in quiete some time, but I know that you can name tracks in YAMB 2.0. You can find it somewhere here in the forum.

thanx for your quick reply bond :)

Like nurbs mentioned, I tried the test version of Yamb 2.0, works like a charm. Not only can I add more audio streams, but also name them without needing to select a language.

Thnx again all.
