Adding 2nd audio to xvid: first audio out of sync on standalone only

I'm still experimenting on ripping my original DVDs to xvid to put on my media center to save space compared to shrinking DVDs as I've been doing so far. To the benefit of my little nagging sister I decided to add the german audio stream as well instead of german subtitles only.

So I've added an mp3 VBR stream to the avi with Virtualdubmod which worked fine except for two episodes where I had to add some skew to get the german stream in sync with the video. Problem is that on those two eps the english stream is now out of sync and curiously enough only on my standalone. Playing those files on my PC with MPC is working just fine.

How come?

Which is the best way to check the audio stream offset in an avi? Maybe muxing in the new stream introduced something the player can't handle but the MPC can?

Try running your VDM muxes thru' MPEG4 Modifier.... For good measure!

I did use it (after I finally gave in and installed .net) but it did not help me.

What I'm not getting is that demuxing a stream from my original DVD to my hd with DVDD does not show any audio offset, regardless of the "patch m2v timecode" setting.

So how come the english audio stream is ok but the german is more than a second of. IOW, is there a tool that can determine the offset so I can manually add this as silence to the german mp3 before muxing it into the avi?

And what other useful avi muxing tools are out there? Thanks

AVI-Mux GUI, but you would have to turn off most of its vanilla, to achieve standalone compatibility. The documentation on AVI-Mux is really good, and you will find warnings, where compatibility with standalones is an issue.
Also, muxing audio every defined chunk of data is better imho, than putting audio every one video frame (Vdub's default).
