TBC machine needed - DATAVIDEO 1000, Fix my AG or... a DVD recorder?

I heard a good way of doing a passthrough tbc is using a dvd recorder such as DMR-ES10... would that be better then using a specifically DATAVIDEO TBC1000 device?... how about using my AG-1980 which has weared heads but can be used as another passthrough alternative... you tell me! and I know there are differences in different TBCs machine but what would be the best of all 3... know that I'm gonna be using my SLV-r1000 as the source as it seems it has better playback quality then my AG but without TBC it doesn't do as great... I hope to have the best of both worlds soon... my SLV + TBC = god who knows...

If you have the AG-1980 then you should replace the heads as that is Panasonic's top of the line S-VHS and is all you should need.

No TBC device will perform as good as one built into a VHS, this is assuming you're going to be capturing from the machine's output. I don't think TBC on that model is applied when used as a passthrough device.

Is this TBC on the AG full frame?...
a guy from videohelp named lordsmurf said the AG doesn't have full frame only lines!! that scare me what do you say :rolleyes:

I read here AG-1980 only has horizontal TBC!

And on the manual is says vertical skews should TBC be turned off!! then is true!

Then this is somewhat contradictory to what I've heard and experienced, because chances are if you're going to be capturing a source that's really shaky, then the on-chip TBC will most likely take care of it and full-frame won't be necessary. At any rate, in-line or external TBC devices, even if they are full-frame, will not be as successful as on-chip.

Then why is full frame needed... when the TBC is external only?
They also say the TBC on the AG is crap in other words... compared to an DPS TBC-IV at least.
