Multiple Commentary tracks in one DVD?

This may be the wrong place for this post, so move it if you see fit.

I've been fooling around with Dodgeball. In PgcEdit I can see five audio tracks:

0 En Normal AC3 6Ch
1 Fr Normal AC3 2Ch
2 Es Normal AC3 2Ch
3 En Normal AC3 2Ch
4 En Normal AC3 2Ch

Stream ID 3 seems to be the Commentary track, and it is SetSTN when you pick the button for commentary.

Stream ID 4 is not selected anywhere in the DVD.

Demuxing both tracks and taking a listen, they are two separate commentray tracks, by the same guys.

Why would they include an alternate commentary that never gets played? Are they assumeing that you'd have to use your "Audio Track" button on your hardware player to access it?

Perhaps trach 4 is slected via an indirect command (ie a gprm). But if they are the same, it could just be "filler".

Hmmm... I dunno, I dug around for a while with both trace and regular mode of PcgEdit, and I couldn't find anything that would set it to that track. I'll take another look.

Well, I listened to them again, and I realized that the first one has three people, the writer/director, Ben Stiller and and Vince Vaughn. The second, apparently uncalled track is JUST the writer/director guy. So yeah, two totally different tracks.

Maybe they were going to include two tracks and changed their minds at the last minute?
Maybe it is just filler...

You may need to play around with the menu buttons - especially on the special features menu, where these commentaries usually are - to see if you can get it selected.

Finally found it, its an easter egg.

During the movie, anytime Ben Stiller's character snaps his fingers (five times), there is a 10 second cell with a BOV. Clicking enter will bring up a brief clip. The third one will trigger the extra commentary track.

The BOVs are hard to emulate in software, since they are 2 pixels by 2 pixels. :( A hardware player will snap right to the button, but with mouse control you need to FIND the invisible button... So I just went into PgcEdit and made the buttons HUGE. :)

Its a difference that you could only see on a PC.

The BOVs are hard to emulate in software, since they are 2 pixels by 2 pixels.

In PowerDVD (I'm not sure in WInDVD..) if you keep the mouse pointer out of the DVD playback screen, you can handle the buttons (menu, BOVs) with the keyboard, just like in a remote.
I usually test the DVDs in this way.... to see the defaulted buttons, i.e., otherwise, the highlighted button changes to the closest to the mouse pointer one.
