Say per chance I have a decrypted HD-DVD backup on my computer. And im using one of the wonderful software players that play HD-DVD. Will I still need a HDCP Moniter or HDCP Graphics? Or do I just need a Graphics that supports h265 and VC-1. And or Reg Moniter? I have a HDCP Graphics card, but not a HDCP READY moniter, however my moniter supports 1080p.

When using programs do they still play at FULL 1080 or do they down scale, when decrypted.

@ Klownicle

Just so you know, it's "monitor" and H.264, not H.265. Not to be a jerk, just so we're clear :)

To answer your question, all you need is a system that's fast enough to decode H.264 in real-time. Often, graphics cards that support HDCP also support H.264 decoding acceleration, which will allow a slower PC to playback full 1080p HD, since that's pretty much impossible for even a stacked dual core system without a really good decoder (CoreAVC, which can't be used with HD-DVD yet) or graphics card acceleration.

I don't think it's been determined if the player actually displays true 1080p yet. Sometimes it's definitely downscaled to 560p, and then back up to 1080p (bastards)... Somebody else might have more information on this.

I just bought the following setup,

1GB DDR2 800, XMS2 (Dual Channel)
eVGA 8800GTS HDCP 640MB
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor

Hoping that will get it done :).

It should, provided that you are able to enable hardware decoding with your 8800gts (nice card btw. Play Rainbow 6: Vegas, or Oblivion? ;))

:envy: My poor 7800gt is no longer up to the task of pwnage. Overclock that Windsor :)

Enjoy! I'm getting an HD-DVD drive soon :D
