View Full Version : ffdshow won't play xvid/divx

I've been trying for quite a while to have ffdshow take care of all my video formats (mostly to get x264 files to play in WMP and nsv files to play in winamp), but have never been able to get it to properly decode xvid and divx files.

If I uninstall ALL codecs and install ffdshow and tell it to handle everything with libavcodec, it will play back xvid and divx files, but either in black and white or in black and white with red and green stripes. If I install the xvid codec and tell ffdshow to use xvid to decode all supported formats, I get the same output in WMP. I can only properly decode xvid and divx files if I uninstall ffdshow and reinstall the xvid codec. With ffdshow on my system, proper playback is not possible.

Have tried numerous builds of ffdshow, have read several guides, but have never found a solution to my problem. Is there anything that I can do? Thanks for any help!

In ffdshow video decoder configuration, go to Output. Disable all output colorspaces except RGB32. Then see if it works.

Brilliant idea, but unfortunately it doesn't work. :(

*installing ffdshow after uninstalling all codecs on laptop to see if it works... uninstall codecs, reboot, install latest ffdshow, set all to libavcodec.dll*

Works great on the laptop. I wonder what's different?

My laptop is more or less a clean install of XP Pro SP2 with about a dozen programs installed. My desktop is my main machine, with a lot more programs installed. The only thing I can think of that could have borked my desktop was install WMP11. I've since rolled back to 10, but ffdshow still doesn't work. Have never installed any codec packs or any of that other evil stuff. :)

Any other suggestions?
