Need help finding a media player

Around X-mas, I was watching a Futurama disc on my computer using WMP11 on my newly acquired Dell 20" LCD @ 1050x1680 resolution. I noticed that in fullscreen mode the video was blurry and was very badly deinterlaced. It appeared as if it would zoom in on the video instead of re-scaling it.

I searched around here, downloaded MPC and it was clear and properly deinterlaced. I then tried watching The Office (NBC version) season 2 and the video was not playing but audio was. The disc worked fine in WMP (with previously noted problems of course) so I tried using VLC which looks very nice (using X deinterlacing) but is slow to load and hard to navigate a DVD with.

Is there a fix for MPC so I can watch all my DVDs? Or is there another option I need to try in order to achieve the best playback? I have FFDShow but I'm not clear on how to take advantage with it for DVDs. What is a good setup that will display and deinterlace video properly? I need a good all around media player because I co-own a small productions company and I am constantly checking DVDs on my computer for errors so glitches and problems with pograms are not acceptable.

My computer has a 2.6GHZ P4 with Hyper Threading (800 mhz FSB)
1.5 GBs of PC-2700 RAM

Hello,

First of all, if you want an up-to-date media player, then the list is small. MPC is really one of the best. And ffdshow is also one of the best codec solution to go with.

Now your problem might be:
* conflicting codec versions
* old MPC or ffdshow builds

I advice:
* You uninstall all possible codecs you have
* You install the latest stable release of MPC (611-3): http://ffdshow.faireal.net/
* You install the latest stable release of ffdshow (tryouts beta 1):
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=173941&package_id=213872&release_id=469134

You might also want to add the followings:
* Haali Media Splitter, for better subtitles support: http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/
* Real alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm) and Quicktime alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm).
