View Full Version : Problems getting AC3 sound

I figured posting in here would be the best place to start.
I installed the ac3 regfilters for 2k/XP (my system is XP) but only seem to be getting stereo sound in DivX coded with ac3. In powerdvd4 XP I have SPDIF enabled and get dolby digital sound on DVDs but when I play a DivX file it switches the SPDIF off and goes into stereo mode. In WMP8 for XP it only plays in stereo and even after using the enable SPDIF reg file nothing seems to happen. I have been told that it is definitely an ac3 sound on the DivX I am trying to play (Planet of the Apes), is there any way to check? The audio Bit Rate is 384kbps.

My system is a 1GHz Athlon with 512ram, 6 channel Sonic Fury outputting via SPDIF to a Kenwood Dolby Digital Amp.
I am reluctant to try anything too drastic until I get some advice because the last time I put 2k filters on this XP system it had a fit and I was never able to work out how to remove them.

Sorry for the big post and TIA

384kbs is definetely AC3. not running XP so I can't help you there, sorry. Easiest way to check the type of the audio (at least in 2000) is to right click on an AVI file and hit properties and then go to the summary screen and it should tell you the audio type, as well as a bunch of other fun info.

Thanks for the reply, it doesnt give any details in the summary of the "type" of audio encoding just the bitrate. But I know when ac3 digital is being output from my pc because the amp automatically picksup on it and switches over to Dolby Digital. I don't know whether I have to do any of this graph editing stuff and am reluctant to do it until I can get a few guidelines on what may be wrong.
Thx again
