What is this 'Quantizer Compression' option under
the 'RC and Me' tab in MEGUI?
Cuz I'm confused.

Deaththesheep's guide says:
"the bitrate variability control aka. qcomp. sets how much the quantizer can fluctuate,
0 = pure CBR and 1 = pure VBR.

(so wich one does deaththesheep's guide decribe?
Quantizer Compression or Bitrate Variablility?
Cuz both are specified seperately in MEGUI!

Bitrate Variance is the --ratetol option in x264, while quantizer compression is --qcomp

Which one is better? set the qcomp at 1 or leave it at the defaul value 0.6?

i think the intro of mbtree made this info inaccurate. leave it at the default.

What's better, a 5-pound hammer or a 10-pound hammer?

The point is that you give no data at all for answering your question. In such a case we can only advise you to stick with the default.
