Website for keys?

Guys, don't mean to be off topic, but you guys rock!! I have mentioned this before but i would like to start some sort of webapp at http://www.aacskeys.com that will post aacs keys and display other information. Is everyone cool with this? Any ideas you have that i can put on this? Please lemme know at rayyad247_AT_hotmail.com . Once again, didnt mean to go off topic.

Did your website get shut down?

I would be very hard to keep a AACS key website up
as the hosting company would get orders from DMCA to shut you down.

emule or torrents probably only way, and it would be not
organized and some people would just include random numbers
for keys just to waste your time.

I would fancy key retrieval via web service. You hit a website specifying a SHA1 hash and it returns a Volume Key. If the key is not found in the database, simply return all 00. This could very easily be integrated into BackupHDDVD or a GUI frontend for automated key retrieval.

For example:

Returns:
8BA9C422F93C9B4B4247814530B29C48

A lot of functionality could be built around this web service-like model. If a player receives all 00, it can communicate back to the server with hash and title name. This would give us a way to search for new volume keys as movies come out, etc.

Thats kind of similar to XBOX360_SS_Merger_1.50 for the 360 discs.

You put your 360 disc in and the program scans it then matches the information with a database on the net. The database returns the correct SS (Security Sectors) for the disc version you have whether its US / UK etc.

This would be awesome for HD-DVD. You let the program scan your inserted HD-DVD it check SHA1 hash then looks in Database for it. It pulls up a dropdown box with the titles that match and you select your version whether it be US /UK in case the VUK differ from region to region. After selection it saves it into your personal key database and gives you the option to backup your disc.

No need to,
The sha1 will be different for a title that was specific for
a certain region or if it was a re-released etc.

If you see your title in the keydb.file but BUHDDVD say
that a sha1 match was not found, then you simple
don't have the key and need to find a hash/key set for that
version of that movie title.

BUHDDVD ignores the title name completly and is just
there so it can say:found sha1 match for 'title'

tonyp12 is right, and the reason that I want to stay away from using names. I think (if even only through obscurity), that only exchanging hashes for keys will be more resilient to those looking for trouble. Also, I like the idea of not maintaining a web front end (not in the traditional html form search sense at least).

It responds in the following format:

Title|VolumeKey

This can be parsed by any decoder, BackupHDDVD or otherwise.

I set it up as "HDKeys" because at some point I'm sure BluRay keys will also be available. When that happens, keys will also be available using a similar url, save for changing it to getkey/bluray/HASH

At some point, the homepage will have a searchable interface, and the ability for people to submit new keys.

i've updated the database on melakai.110mb.com to reflect 47 known kv. the (free) host doesn't allow .htaccess, so i can't enable rewrite for friendly urls. anyways, mistar muffin seems to have taken the flag and run.

Here is a modified version of BackupHDDVD that will compute it's own hash, thanks to OverlordQ, and then retrieve a key from the online database at http://www.hdkeys.com/

It also writes the key to keydb.cfg for later use.

How about a feature to add hash+title+key to the online database if it's not already there?
To avoid people entering false values, maybe a couple of users should add the same hash+key before it will be accepted by the online database if this is possible to implement?

What happens if you run your updated BackupHDDVD software with a hash that's not already in your online database? (I haven't got a HD-DVD drive yet to actually testit)
