View Full Version : megui loads video, previews video, but encodes corrupt file

I have been using megui now for over five months without issue.

Just recently - I changed no settings, I began getting this when I loaded the video into VLC.

The source was 720p mpeg2, about 8 mbps, from an OTA stream.

It plays other x264 files fine, however.

I tried muxing the video with the audio with mkvmerge, and now instead of an error, I get a file that's 1/4th the size I want it to be, but it was playable and the audio was in sync. 1/4th of the file was cut off.

I have been waiting on reinstalling windows, so this was the last straw, but the problem persists after a reinstall. I am out of ideas.

Out of curiousity, I took a few other mpeg2 streams that I had encoded, and they didn't work either. I had someone else try with the same d2v file I was using, and it worked for them. I tried different versions of x264.exe, different versions of megui, and different versions of dgindex.

I'm fresh out of ideas. If anyone has any, I'd love to hear.

edit: I tried installing the newest mkvtools, same issue. But if I encode the file with an mp4 extension, it works fine.

edit2: If I encode in megui as an mp4, then change the extension when it's done to mkv, it works. But if I encode as mkv in megui, it doesn't. Is this a fix that will cause problems down the line, or am I safe doing this?

edit3: After changing the filename from mp4 to mkv, the video continues to work, but when I use mkvmerge to mux it, I get the error as stated above.

edit4: my mkv works in media player classic with ffdshow, in someone else's VLC, but not my VLC.
