I am amazed I have not asked this before, but is it normal that you cannot access DVD-ROM players from more than one account in Windows XP?

I have to log off before my wife can access the player form her a/c.

Would be grateful to know if this is my screw-up or a "feature"

When you say dvd-rom players, do you mean dvd player software or the drives?

I just tried power dvd v7, playing an image using daemon tools. It worked fine with 2 different accounts at the same time (the first player became paused when switching users).

What software are you using?

i am talking about the drives themselves. Not seen by Nero InfoTool, Not accessible in My Computer, gone. This is software independent, possibly down to ASPI-layer.

Do you have any direct buring software running, like incd, direct cd, something like that could possibly be locking your drive. I dont know, not tried them and dont know if they will even install on xp. But that should only be for a writer, if its just a dvd rom drive, not sure.

Thanks for your help. No, one of them is a DVD RAM writer, but the other is a plain vanilla DVD ROM. They behave identically. I have tried Direct CD and InCD, but my memory is that this behaviour stared before then.
