Hi: I don't encode with divx ( I don't encode @ all :D ) But I do enjoy viewing other peoples work, and I have come across a error I never seen before. First I own a AMD 64 X2 4400 with 1.5 gigs of hyper x ram, and 510 gigs of hard drive space with a nvida mother board and a GEForce FX 5600 Ultra Video Card ( Yes I agree I need to upgrade my video card, but I want to wait for the DX 10 cards) running Windows XP SP2. I missed the season intro of a tv show I watch, and found someone had posted the show on alt.binaries.multimedia. I was able to download the entire file from easynews( can I mention them here?) The websit offered a complete unrared version of the episode ready to download, so I downloaded it. It was labeled as: Wildfire - S03E01 - Fairy Tale Ending.divx so I decided to convert the extension to .avi. The minute I clicked on the file and changed the extetsion to .avi it cause the DEP warning to pop up and locked up my d drive ( the internet explorer browser of the D Drive) I have had this 64 bit processor for about six months and never came across a DEP error. I figured this was just crazy XP acting up, so I tried to do a quick search of this forum and videohelp looking for other post about DEP locking up computers from a divx video file. I found none. I did find a artice that explained how I could disable DEP and run the file again. I decided this sounded risky, so I deleted the file. Went back to easynews thinking maybe I got a corrurpted download and downloaded the file again. As I clicked on the new file in my d drive, again it frooze internet explore. So I made a rash move. I ran my norton virus and then Ad-Aware to see if either of them would bring up a red flag. Nothing so I disabled DEP and tried to open the file using WMP, bsplayer, and Powerdvd each time I opened the file it locked up the program trying to view the file. Is their any possiblity that this was just a XP error, or is the file mostly like a virus ridden trap from the RIAA? If someone wants to download the file and test it themself (brave soul :cool: ) reply and I can tell you what day the file was posted to easynew/ the newsgroup. Thanks!!
