Just did a clean install of XP SP2 on one of my machine's with no problem except Ethernet controller driver's are not installed.
It is an intel 82865 g motherboard with an on board ethernet socket, computer is Dell 3000,3 gig.processor,200 gig HD.
Have looked everywhere for correct driver's,all install disks,Dell,Microsoft, many driver sites. Can anybody help or would I be better off just installing a plug in ethernet card.
Thanks

Windows should install a driver for it - ordinarily you can connect a Dell to the internet and they will identify it for you and give you a list of all the drivers it needs. If you have an extra ethernet card you could use it temporarily to get the information you need and remove it when you're done. I personally don't use the onboard ones since they're not of the same quality as a brand-name PCI one.

After a day and a half found the right driver and chipset update,it's working fine now.Drivers for this do not come bundled with any XP install disk's.Have all from 3.1 to XP SP2.
Could have put a card in but it tick's me off when Microsoft, dell, and intel leave you hanging.
Thank's All
