View Full Version : Cropping an AVI without re-encoding

Hi,

I'm kinda clueless when it comes to encoding; I've been using autogk for a while now, but I just know the basics.

My problem is this. I have an avi that I encoded from a .ts file. However, because the ts file was recorded from an hd 1080i file, there's 8 useless pixels at the bottom of the avi.

What I'm wondering is, does anyone know a simple way to break apart the avi, remove the bottom 8 pixels, and then recombine?

I think this might be my only option - I've tried the following:

-change the height of the avi in the vdub hex editor
-use vdub to do a recompression with a cropping filter... however the filesize seemed to increase astronically.

Can anyone help me? I could just reencode, but that takes 12 hours on my computer, and it would be great if there was a work around.

best,
Charlie

Hi,

This seems a crosspost of this thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=929334#post929334
in which you already had answers.

See rule8 http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm about it.

check out the times on the threads. I posted here first, then realized that it maybe wasn't the best place to ask.

As I mentioned, I'm a newbie who doesn't really understand encoding, so that's why I didn't know where to post it.

Its just as easy to close this one, since BigDid has a link to your more detailed thread.
