Through alot of research and pissing around I have figured out how to change my older WMP11 to WMP10 but to change from WMP 10 to WMP 9 is more of a challenge. I have done some registry work and and tryed removing WMP10 now i actulaly have issues with my control panel add/remove programs not working but thats minor, i will get that fixed. So i figured i would try and reinstall WMP9 and of course:
Your current version of windows on this computer has a more current version of WMP. WMP 9 will now exit.
I know I am supposed to be able to roll back WMP to whatever is on your install cd(with alot of messing around but it is possible from what i have gathered)...which brings me to anouther question..How can I find out exactly what version WMP is on my install CD?
As for changing WMP 10 to WMP 9:
Someone said something about they tryed changing the files names of certain dll files, and replacing thme...but i was thinking..
What if I deleted the entire WMP files/(and whatever other files assoiciated with wmp) and then did a repair OS from my recovery CD? Would this work?
Or
If i only have wmp10 on my install cd I should be able to delete whatever files are associated with wmp on my computer and the main files in th OS that are associated with
wmp 10 in any shape or form and replace them with pre downloaded WMP 9 replacement files.
Or find the I386 file
that contains what media player I need and run a sfc /scannow.
(I have no clue if these three ideas would work, just looking for input really)
I would rather not reformat to change the media player, but if need be I guess i will.And if I did is there a way to do this without having to destroy ALL my info on my harddrive? Or does it have to be a clean sweep?(i have a very custom computer with alot of information on it and I REALLY don't want to have to rreinstall and reset up everything because of crappy wmp11)
Is there a free tool out there that could do this change over for me ?
if you are curious on why I want to revert from wmp11 all the way back to wmp9 is because of the *DRM files I have heard can only be removed in WMP9.(from what i have found...please correct me if I'm wrong!) wow never figured this would be such a hassle, but I guess!
