I am having problems with converting a DV AVI to MPEG2.
I encode the DV AVI with TMPGEnc with VBR multi-pass (min 6000, avg 7500, max 9000) without padding, and then mux with its AC3 soundtrack with TMPCEnc MPEG Tools.
During playback with WMP10 (nvidia purevideo decoder) there is a stutter in the first 6 seconds of playback which corresponds to a pure black background and white letters (a 6 second title inserted by me in the AVI with Videostudio). Audio is ok, but the 6 seconds of black is cut to less due to the stutter, putting the audio and video out of synch.
The same happens when encoded with CCE VBR (min 6000, avg 7500, max 9000). The bitrate assigned to this 6 second section is very low at around 200 - 300 bps. Check out the VBR Allocation graph in CCE. The yellow line is the assigned bitrate. The first 6 seconds get hardly anything, and that’s where the problem is.

If I set TMPGEnc with VBR multi-pass (min 6000, avg 7500, max 9000) *with* padding, or use a CBR of 6000 then there is no problem with the playback.
So, who’s to blame? The TMPGEnc muxing, WMP10 for some VBV buffering issue, or the encoder for encoding incorrectly?
However, if I mux with ImagoMPEG-Muxer there are no problems! But I can’t believe that the problem is TMPGEnc muxing - it must be bulletproof by now! I have noticed that the file produced by ImagoMPEG-Muxer is slightly larger than the one produced by TMPCEnc MPEG Tools.
Any help would be appreciated!
